A Morning Drive.
It was the last time I’d see her. I didn’t pay much attention to it then due to the overly optimistic side of me. She was going to college and I was going to another. Looking back it’s clear to me that we’d be no more further apart than we already were.
I began my drive towards the University of Florida, a six hour drive. I must admit, I was scared of turning on the radio. I’ve thought about this often and I don’t know why. Perhaps it’s because the silence was the last thing we’d ever share? I’m not sure. Cat Stevens’ Wild World was the first song I’d play as I’ve always liked to match songs to the situation. Wavves played next. I’d be a terrible DJ.
The last thing she said to me was “don’t be a stranger.”
That’s all we ever were.
