thoughts on america x lit? whats their relationship (romantic?) like?

It is a very different relationship for both of them, yet its one that both find a lot of comfort from and its kinda...one of the healthier nation romantic relationships. Which is likely a direct result of them not sharing a continent. But there is a lot to the relationship.

Toris and Alfred both exist within the "nation culture" of natural nonmonogamy. Toris is pretty much a poster boy for old world nonmonogamy (that is just...what he knows and is comfortable with), and Alfred is a super power in the body of a college frat boy. Which allows them to have a unspoken agreement. There is no jealousy or expectations for long term commitment. The relationship heats up every few years or whenever one of them is feeling it. Contrary to popular rumor, Toris often instigates it. Generally it will go on for a few months until another relationship grabs their attention. It gradually goes from a sexual relationship to casual friendship pretty easily.

A lot of old world nations where kinda...surprised that Toris actually developed affection (in the odd non-human way nations can love their counterparts- which is an entirely different post for) for Alfred. A lot of them where like sure we understand the sex part. He is 6'2 , well fed, tan, growing in power, and can pick you up with one pinky. Its also always nice to a super power that likes you in your back pocket. But there was some shock when at one point soon after Toris moved back some (probably semi-jealous Feliks) nation said something snaky about being glad that little British brat was was put in his place, only for Toris to whip around and tell them to shut the fuck up. It got around pretty quickly (unfortunately, as Ivan did end up using it as a weapon) to maybe be careful about what you say about Alfred because Toris might break your wrist.

If you ask Alfreds family , Toris is their favorite partner on Alfreds roster. They all truly believe if Ivan would only die and disappear forever, Alfred could finally have a non chaotic toxic world ending relationship with Toris. Which probaly would not happen, but they can dream. Arthur is so frequently pushing for them to be together. Always inviting Toris to dinner or telling Alfred to invite him to the family Christmas gathering. Angrily glaring in Ivans direction. In a human AU and nationverse Toris and Matthew would end up being such good freinds/brother in laws. They would love doing outside activities together while also having a fondness for random artistic inside hobbies. Francis and Toris have had some really good gossip sessions together in the modern era.

When they are sleeping together, Alfred is so much...calmer and more approachable. So much less on edge and less likely to be an openly hostile bitchy super power. There are nations that track the relationship because its a known fact you are much more like to get a "yeah, sure, I can do that for you." from Alfred in response to a poltical or personal request. Totally feeds into Arthurs theory that Toris is the healther partner for Alfred. Toris may have used to his advantage once or twice. Which Alfred is very much so aware of. But he doesn't really care. Toris doesn't abuse it or take advantage of Alfred status.

Alfred is attracted to power. And yes, sometimes that equals him being attracted to nations who are powerful via economy or miltary. But power comes from different sources. In the case of Toris, he is a force to be reckoned with. Throughout history, Toris has gone up against Gilbert. Feliks. Never has he stopped fighting back against Ivan. To this day, his neighbors know that you really don't want to fuck with him. He will hit back. In modern times he might be quieter, less likely to throw fists the first time Gilbert decides to be an ass. But he is still powerful. He has just found that soaking up information and biding you time is just as helpful as stabbing someone. Alfred can see that, and it he finds the quiter more reserved power hot as fuck. The way Toris can turn it on out of seemingly nowhere gets Alfred going. After years of trama and terrible experience, Toris also knows who is he. He is confident and secure in his identity in a way Alfred kinda sometimes only is pretending to be.

A fully headcanon: Toris loves the night's they spend together that consist of him sitting on the couch knitting or embroidery while Alfred yapps about the newest movie or some random American domestic event that is going on. He actually enjoys listening to Alfred, and is listening. Alfred on the other hand loves that Toris is one of the only European nations that will actually explain things to him. There are so many dynamics in Europe. So many are messy, complicated, and nearly impossible to understand as a outsider. Toris is always happy to take the time to explain to Alfred why dynamics are the way they are. He gives insight (nothing ever super personal or things he promised to not tell) about why nations react how they do or why they do the things they do. Toris is a fantastic story teller. When Alfred isn't yapping, he lays his head on Toris and Toris will verbally paint such detailed pictures of the days of knights and fighting wars with armer. He teaches Alfred about history and his people and his language. Alfred loves those nights. Alfred likes sneaking toris sweet little kisses behind corners at meetings. He likes when Toris will grab his hand under the table and just hold it the entire time. Going to the farmer markers on the weekend and then cooking together when Toris visits. Or going hiking or hunting at either of their places.

The sex leans softer and gentle, I think. They both get their kinky or hate sex from other partners. I think their sex started off more gentle and fluffy when they first started their relationship in the late 1910s-1929s post ww1. And that's what they like getting from the other. Alfred likes pampering Toris. He really doesn't want to hurt him on purpose or more horrifying for him, by accident with his super strength. However, Toris does enjoy roughness, and he 100% enjoys Alfred super strength and ability to be dominant presence. So it isn't always fluffy sex. Although, Alfred is vigilant with aftercare when they are rough.
