His feet hit the ground running as he propels from the passenger side of the van, the driver bewildered at having been left. The bewilderment only lasts a moment before the bomb goes off and Taniel crosses off a name on the mental list of who he has to pay off or murder later, a small inkling of stress dying with the man in the churning fire behind him. The contents of the backpack jostling across his shoulders were now seventy five percent his, provided he could get out of the situation alive. Already, he can hear the screech of tires and sirens a street down-- any minute, they’d be taking the corner.
Taniel is desperate, his knees aching with each step as he pulls at the crowd that is just as frantic as he is to get away. His bare fingers drift across bare necks, exposed arms, wrists, anything he can get his hands on when it comes to the fleeing people around him, terrified as sheep of the explosion and fire. He finds nothing at first, no tingle in his hand or chest to tell him of powers laying hidden in strangers that could assist him in anyway. Nothing nothing nothing nothing math genius nothing nothing
The sirens were growing closer.
Nothing nothing nothing ages slightly slower than a normal person nothing can count to two thousand fourty five before getting bored nothing nothing
--Bingo.
His fingers tingled pleasantly, a heat spreading up his arm to rest pleasurably in his chest, and Taniel wraps his fingers around the man’s, grinning.
“Buddy system, man. Gotta use the buddy system.”
Pleasant. He sounds almost... kind. But then his free hand rises, fingers splayed out like a 90′s cartoon villain, and the police car that fishtails itself around the corner and several people careen backwards into bits and pieces with the concussive blast Taniel had “borrowed” from the stranger.
