#Repost @angigreene ・・・ || Remember there are seasons for everything • I have lived in a strong athletes body who was the 6th fastest cyclist in the world for #triathlon in China • a slender models body that worked internationally for over a decade and have grown 2 humans in my body • through it all I know that my environment or body shape or marriage status doesn't determine who I am • my circumstances do not define me • my attitude does • the reason I workout is so that i continue to train my brain to fight through pain • if a season of sickness were to come into my body I would have the strength and immunity to fight (not to do another cover of a magazine) Our bodies are just a shell of who we are but they are also a superpower if we help them be • my mother and father both dropped down to under 99lbs with their cancerous bodies and because my mom was in good physical shape her whole life she was still able to squat down unassisted on the toilet (something most of us take for granted) • throughout every season try to find purpose and passion for where you are and where you want to be || you are so much more than a number on the scale || #fitfam #purposedriven #transformation #morethanabody #bump #fbf #angi5strong
Stop blaming your body for functioning as it should. Stop letting your insecurities rob you of living your best life. We are constantly told that health has a specific “weight” or a certain “look”. For years I always thought a healthy body was a thin body. But the truth is far from that. Health looks different for everyone and includes aspects of life far beyond the physical. You can’t define your own health by your physical appearance alone. Health is defined by lifestyle, mood, energy, and so many other factors. Trust me, the list goes on and on! Mental health is just as important (or even more important) than physical. After all, your mind plants the seeds from which your body will grow. I’m very passionate about empowering others to trust their body and seek a lifestyle that fills their soul, rather than give in to the very same diet culture that profits from our insecurities. #Repost per credit from & the courtesy of @beauty_redefined ・・・ The problem is NOT your body. The problem is believing you are just a body. It’s like our bodies aren’t part of us, but ALL of us. At Beauty Redefined, we teach that body shame must be uprooted *at its source*: the idea that our appearance is the MOST IMPORTANT THING about us. When we fight back by alleviating the shame surrounding certain body types, we’re only fighting a *symptom* of the problem, not the root or the real cause. 💗The real problem is *not* that only certain women’s bodies are valued, it is that women’s bodies are valued more than women themselves. When women are primarily valued for our bodies at the expense of anything else, we are bought and sold, silenced, abused, mutilated, murdered, devalued, not believed, not taken seriously, and compelled to keep beauty at the forefront of our thoughts for life. As long as we are being valued primarily by our looks, we will always be considered objects first and people second. 💜This line of thinking keeps us "in our place" as objects to be looked at, fixed (from the roots in our hair to our the color of our toenails and every inch in between), judged, and ignored. When we are worried about how our bodies and faces look (it's called self-objectification), we do worse on math tests, logical reasoning tests, athletic performance, and we have lower sexual assertiveness (including the ability to say “no” and discuss protection). It makes us sad, envious, lonely, and filled with shame. 💛You are SO much more than just beautiful, and your body image, confidence, and sense of purpose will improve dramatically when you believe that. #Repost @ybicoalition with @get_repost ・・・ “You are not a before OR an after. You aren't "bigger than I was last year" or "finally fitting into my skinny jeans!" YOU aren't captured in a photo - whether you love it or hate it - because you are more than a body. ✖️Before and after photos (often inadvertently) reinforce the myth that thinness is best, healthiest, and any measures taken to get there are worth it. When (nearly everyone - we’re talking more than 95% of us) regains the weight, all that praise becomes silence and shame sets in. And what if your “after” looks like someone else’s supposedly depressing and unfortunate “before”?! That happens ALL THE TIME! ✖️These pics also tend to reinforce the assumption that the way a body looks determines if it is healthy or not. The look of your body does *not* always illustrate balanced eating and fitness in the ways #beforeandafter photos glorify and promise – it’s just not the way bodies work. Many people run marathons, have balanced eating habits, and cardiovascular health — and STILL don’t have a body you would ever see in a fitness mag or typical “after” photo. Plus, LOTS of people go to unhealthy extremes like disordered eating, over-exercising, using unsafe diet pills, and surgery to achieve the look of health and then appear as “after” bodies. Don't forget these photos are SO easily manipulated! ✖️Though it’s tempting to scroll through these images while longing for the days when our bodies will look like “afters” with tons of likes and perfect lives, sometimes those simplified comparison images actually distract people from positive health choices by turning the focus to appearance at the expense of fitness. Your #transformationtuesday doesn’t have to be something you can see from the outside! ✖️Let's stop thinking of ourselves and our progress in terms of how it appears to others. Let's focus on improving how we FEEL and what our bodies can DO!” @beauty_redefined ・・・ #repost 👊🏼•Find the @beauty_redefined 8-week online Body Image Resilience Course at link in their bio. #morethanabody #seemorebemore #beautyredefined https://www.instagram.com/p/BroZXAlj7lA/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1n6i0hbnz80g8
@Regran_ed from @beauty_redefined - If we had to summarize the purpose of our nonprofit and our unique, research-driven approach to body image work in a few short points, it is THIS. We hope it’s starting to sound natural and second-nature to many of you, because we can assure you it sounds *bizarre* to lots of others who can’t imagine the best outcome for women and girls could be anything short of looking and feeling beautiful. We’re here to remind you women are MORE than bodies, and it’s time to SEE more and BE more. The world needs women, not pretty decorations. ✖️[As per usual, if you want more on this topic, click the link in our bio for our online Body Image Resilience Course at courses.beautyredefined.org, TEDx talk, “Instrument not Ornament” T-shirts and decals, and our blog!] #beautyredefined #morethanabody #seemorebemore #cute #beautiful #bopo #loveyourbody #loveyourself https://www.instagram.com/p/BrVbpfcgYx-/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=19wr8zjq9aud0
