#MoreThanMean highlights the vicious, misogynistic online harassment experienced by sportscasters Sarah Spain and Julie DiCaro. As ESPN’s Spain explains, the vitriol wasn’t in response to something she and other women said or did, but to their mere presence in a male-dominated industry. The public service campaign won a 2016 Peabody Award for raising awareness of the issue and encouraging an end to the toxic treatment of women online in general.
This left me in shock as the mean tweets posted by online trolls are read out loud to the women in sports journalism. Its one thing to read it yourself, but to have it read out loud really is hurtful.

"#MoreThanMean" #MoreThanMean takes a common device from late night television--the reading of "mean tweets"--and uses it to expose the angry, hateful bile that female sportscasters are subject to simply for doing their jobs. A moving attack on misogynistic troll culture, the video's simple message about civility online is painfully conveyed by the damage the vicious tweets do not only to the women forced to hear them, but also to the unsuspecting men who read them face-to-face with the female reporters and who are literally confronted with the immediacy of violence and sexism.
