I love that Morgan's birthday is one day after Christmas, and Emma's is one day before Valentine's.

I think it reflects their feelings about the world and their work.

Emma is constantly in anticipation of the capital-r Romance in the world, of the mystery and meaning inherent to her job.

Morgan, meanwhile, doesn't see any intrinsic meaning to what she does. She's cynical and materialistic, only really seeing anything special in the taboo of taking other people's lives.

To take it back to the Christmas metaphor, imagine the feeling you get after Christmas, after getting all these gifts and presents; it would feel pretty rude to ask people for things on December 26th, right?

I feel like that's the kind of state Morgan is in all the time. She doesn't ask for gifts, everything's either a transaction or a theft to her. She doesn't see anything special in the interactions between people like Emma and Serra do.

At least, for the most part she doesn't, considering her reaction to Serra being threatened with incineration or the pill organizer with Flatt, or anything surrounding David...

I love how Emma in of the Devil is just at all times she has to deal with a bunch of absolutely wild people, especially Morgan. Like Emma has her own quirks, but her whole thing is cold calculating logic, and then in Ep.1 it's like, Morgan in the first trial just throwing wild theories out there about corporate espionage, and then she goes into trial 2 and her witness drinks what Emma thinks is poison on the witness stand, and when Emma is trying to recover from that the defense drinks whiskey.

Than you go to Episode 2 and Emma now has to contend with Morgan immediately accusing the victim, a child of two city councilmen, of being on the take, than the next morning she's like "Lol no that was insane IDK why I said that" and then immediately presents several key pieces of evidence that she found by digging in the trash. At least here the witnesses are more down to earth and less dramatic, except for Rodgers who, of course, decides to not show up and then do a bunch of purjury.

On top of all this Morgan keeps winning, I hope Emma gets time off for having to deal this bullshit.

One of my favorite things about Morgan is how (because she mostly acts how she thinks she's meant to act) she really seems to embody the 'unfeeling, logical sociopath' trope. But she has the twist of it also accurately depicting cluster B as the emotional cluster. Obviously she isn't strictly logical, and makes emotional decisions. But even the way she thinks about her being supposedly unfeeling is emotional. She thinks about it so much, and so realistically (speaking from experience) and it's so cathartic.
