athens: favourite greek myth?
i really love the oedipus cycle because we spent a lot of time with it. i rewrote antigone to take place at a modern vacation resort for a project. pyramus and thisbe was my favorite thing to translate, but that was my dude ovid, so literally neither of these are really greek myths. i guess i’m just not a greek kinda girl
florence: how did you discover your favourite artist’s work?
i’m guessing this means classical artists because of the theme? i’m partial to jmw turner because of his carthage paintings. i randomly picked sofonisba anguissola for a project (and by randomly i mean because she was a woman), and halfway through i realized that her name was also a reference to carthage, so my love for that place literally follows me around. both have wonderful art beyond the antiquity references.
on an unrelated note, ai weiwei is totally worth looking into and i’ll be reading a lot more about him for my beijing oc
