Spent the morning exploring my new hometown and the Church of St Mary and St Helen. The earliest church on the site dates back to the 10th century, but the building that now stands dates from the 19th century with the bell tower dating back to the 12th century. It is a gorgeous and lofty building, and sun four pours in from the many stained glass windows. Inside they have small exhibition of 10th century Viking gravemakers from the period of religious blending of the Christian and Pagan faiths of the occupation of The Wirral my own direct ancestors, a tombstone of an unknown Knight dating from 1260-1280AD, a beautiful casade of poppies for the Festival of Remembrance, and I had a bit of fangirl moment seeing with my own two eyes so many windows designed and made by late Pre-Raphaelite bffs Edward Burne-Jones and William Morris!
