I wasn't able to make it to the memorial today at Morningside College up in Sioux City IA. But I wanted to say a little bit about getting to work with Dr. Mark Heistad. I say I grew up sheltered for most of my life. The schools I went to didn't allow any facial hair what so ever. So when I first met Doc I will admit he scared me. But I got to know him, I saw him everyday, I chose to stay in Sioux City over my first summer there and work for him at the radio station. Him throwing me into the deep end of the pool and making me be live on air when I absolutely didn't want to be really made me who I am today. I was DJ Shy at KMSC because Iwas a very shy person. After my final show live on air, I knew it was a good time to "retire" the DJ name of DJ Shy because I wasn't so shy anymore. Doc forced me out of my very introvert shell and although he threw me into the deep end he was still there to help me whenever it was needed. I liked how he taught too. Very straight forward. After one of my live halftime spots during a football game. He looked me in the eyes and said "Caitlin don't ever read a script again" and I couldn't agree more. But him still being so real with me so quick off the bat made me that much of a better DJ and that much of a better person that much faster. I say quickly because I only had 2 years with him. I say all the time I wish I had all 4 years at morningside. My time was cut short but I'm thankful for the time I did have! #RIPDoc #NeverForgotten #MorningsideCollege #MarkHeistadMemorial #Advisor #Mentor #RIP (at Morningside College)
