I know Neo/Smith is the pairing that has surged in popularity lately (and for that I am genuinely ecstatic) but hear me out..... Morpheus/neo 👉👈

From the get go, both of them mean so much to each other. In M1 at the start, to both of them, their names mean freedom to each other. The name 'Morpheus' is Neo's lifeline to finding the truth about the Matrix that he doesn't know yet.

But to Morpheus, Neo means so much more. He has spent his entire life searching for The One meant to set the whole of humanity free. And now he is here in the flesh—this holy thing, better than anything he could have possibly imagined, alive and breathing, not just a fairytale he has to defend to non believers—I cannot not believe that Morpheus wouldn't feel very strongly for Neo.

Morpheus has taught Neo everything that Neo knows, but conversely, Neo is the three letter prayer that has shaped Morpheus into who he is today. Morpheus is the one who saved, nurtured and trained Neo, but Neo's hands were the guiding hands that gave Morpheus his wisdom. Neo is where Morpheus draws his strength, and in turn Neo respects Morpheus so much he doesn't have to hesitate when he goes on a suicide mission to trade his own life for Morpheus. You saved me, so I'll save you, but I was the one who gave you salvation in the first place...
