Archaeological Museum of Patra

For the life of me I could not find a museum tag for this mosaic, which is a shame, because it’s too beautiful to pass. It depicts a fish and fowl scene, and it’s safe to say it also comes from Patras’ Roman period.

There are twelve separate squares - four subsquares in a group of three, depicting various animals, like a cockerel, a partridge, a duck and a hen, a morray eel, a shrimp and others. This is probably a depiction of animals “you can eat”, or rather you would eat in a Roman banquet. 

The squares are surrounded by a colorful geometric border of meanders that creates a rather wonky iridescent, 3D effect.
