‘how did i get here?’ he asks. the longer he stays, the further away from his life and his familiar world he drifts.

he looks at the empty road before him. the acres and acres of graying fields that surround it. somewhere beyond the field he can see a red barn. what the fuck is this place?

wiping sweat form his forehead, he looks up at the gorgeous blue skies, squinting as the sun hugs his face. aromas of hay, car exhaust, and sterile floors surrounding him.

it was just going to rain, he thinks.

‘come on,’ you chirp.

he wonders how he can hear your voice so clearly when you’re wearing a gas mask. ‘i just want to go back,’ he insists. ‘lead me in the right direction.’

you walk over to him and put the teeth in his mouth.

he's ashing his cigarette, bike parked on the wrong side of town, storm-grey clouds above him as thick as the air. his mind feels wobbly, like up is down and down is a spinning ferris wheel that’s going far too fast. it’s just stress, he tells himself.

‘are you lost?’ a sweet voice asks, dandelions and sunshine wrapped around your tone.

he looks up to see you standing there in a prairie dress and black lipstick, holding something in your palm.

he looks at his bike again. confused by how different it looks. the whole world looks different. it’s like he got sucked into a black hole and spit out into a new timeline. ‘where am i?’ he asks.
