Moses Imayi: #Edtech, Potentials and Challenges for Nigeria

In his Medium article, Project Director, Skool Media, Moses Imayi asks key questions about the potentials that #Edtech has to transform Nigeria; he also looks at the challenges. 

What could this also mean to the over 10 million out-of-school Nigerian children? One thing that technology does is that it breaks borders. Take for example, the young Fulani cattle rearers rearing cattle all day, across several states in Nigeria. Will the deployment of technology for education across several cities specifically targeted at them make sense? If they know that at a period of time, they have access to “school” without being physically present in classrooms for hours, will they go? Classroom without walls, anyone?

Moses Imayi Speaks at TechPlus 2016

Quick introduction. TechPlus is the largest gathering of technology experts in Africa. It attracts stakeholders in the technology sector across the world. TechPlus events are always a great time to share ideas; meet like minds and shape the future of the tech space in Africa.

Moses Imayi Featured in the Nation Newspaper

On Sunday June 19, 2016, Moses Imayi, Project Director, Skool Media was featured in Nation Newspaper. 

He spoke about the technology in education project, passion and the future of education with technology. 

An excerpt:

Through the use of the Samsung tablet, it means students get to learn, they get to use technology in a more secured way. Technology is more secure, if your tablet gets stolen for example in a school, with enough applications you can track the location of the tablet... If students are in a classroom environment and a teacher is teaching, on my laptop as a teacher, I can actually monitor what the students are doing with their tab. They will not be able to go to any site they are supposed to go to. It is configured in such a way that they cannot work outside the school they are just restricted to their learning environment. With the introduction of computer-based test and all of that, it means before the students get to that level, they are ready psychologically and technologically. Technology does not pose a threat to them, they are not scared.

Skool Media is Featured on Happenings Magazine

“Technology can be used to take children out of streets into classrooms. How can we give the young cattle herders an education despite their itinerary lifestyles? How can street kids and children at the IDPs get quality education?” Imayi says that it is important to begin to make use of technology to take education to children who would otherwise not be within the four walls of a classroom. Maybe through this, more children will be taken off the streets, and Nigeria’s future can be better secured.

Skool Media is still far from this dream, however, Imayi has bigger dreams.

“We want to be at the forefront when the story of education in Nigeria is written.” He says.
