13 Light Up the Sky, by Moss Hart. A play about a play! And a comedy!Opening night of a new risky Broadway show by an unknown playwright, surrounded by show biz regulars. I played Sven, the masseuse. My role consisted of opening a door stage right, looking at the people on stage, saying Hello, walking across stage and then out the center door. And I was never seen again. BUT I WAS IN THE SHOW BUSINESS! Honestly that role, even in its minisculity was a boon. It opened doors to the social circles I wasn’t brave enough to open on my own. I finally felt like I was part of the Theatre Department. But since I was on stage for a total of three seconds, there are no pictures of me in it, so here’s a picture of the main cast on the program cover done by the estimable Chris Goumas in the Hirschfield style. And a picture of me sitting in Jana Barber’s office, in the seat I was in when I missed curtain call one night. I was keeping an ear to the monitor, heard raucous applause, thought “wow someone must have done something really funny,” put together the show was over, but the dressing rooms in Westhoff were down stairs and far away from Backstage. I don’t know if anyone noticed. #lightupthesky #mosshart #1989 #isu #isutheatre #redbirdsflyinghigh #sven #chrisgoumas #hirschfield (at Westhoff Theatre) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4PbIpjpp_f/?igshid=gcnpynsowtdi
