Or creatures/characters who are defined by being part-fish (such as merfolk, various pokemon, etc.) or temporarily fish (shapeshifters, victims who are cursed into an animal form, etc.). Yes, Porifera are definitely not fish, and aren’t even structurally similar whatsoever, but I really couldn’t think of any fish-distinct persons in the realm of characters that I love, so we’re going with the sponge, okay??
