DAY 5 of #sevendaystomakeachange is about doing to research of the animal welfare in our own communities. This is tough because the first things that come to my mind were actually pretty negative. I'm thinking about Petland and other terrible places that get their animals from puppy mills and mistreat them. Which I know this post could be spread more awareness of that sort of thing but I wanted to do more research to see if not only I could find more supportive information, but also something positive. I couldn't find exact numbers but I did find that there are around 100 different animal shelters in Georgia (not all were no-kill☹️) but one in particular that stuck out to me over all is Mostly Mutts, a shelter that really is 100% NO KILL. I remembered learning about them when I was apart of a club in high school, Lucky Bucs, to help find homes for strays. Honestly, I don't miss high school at all and hardly even care to talk about it, but I have a lot of good things to say about that club I was in my freshman year. The teachers that ran the club were very good about staying involved and actually getting things accomplished. They let students be foster parents to the animals and got involved with other no kill animal shelters and actually helped find many loving homes. I remember a volunteer from Mostly Mutts came and talked with us once and we learned about how much hard work they put into something they felt very passionate about and also how expensive it was. NO animals are killed, they work hard to take care of every single one. Animals are actually even rescued by Mostly Mutts just moments before the were supposed to be euthanized somewhere else. They are trying to minimize the number of perfectly lovable animals euthanized at other shelters in Atlanta. I plan to increase my involvement of helping animals again with more than just "puppy needs a home" Instagram posts and I hope that Lucky Bucs is still going strong at Allatoona High School. Everyone give extra loving to your fur babies today 🐶💛🐱 #sevendaystomakeachange #109animals #mostlymutts @109world @sgtpeppersfriends @yoga_girl
