The buzzing of his phone pulled the Sheriff out of his thoughts. It was a distraction, a well-needed one at that. His vision was already growing blurred from the staring match with the countless documents and paperwork that was spread across his desk. One hand reached across the scattered files for his phone while the other rose to rub his weary eyes. Seems like the files won this round . . .
A heavy sigh escaped him as Graham blindly flipped open his phone, thumb running over the buttons aimlessly. Finally, he took his other hand down from his eyes, which cast down to the small screen.
He read the message, and read it again. Then he read it one last time. Lips partially upturned and the man swayed his head. “Oh, Belle,” he sighed.
Thumbs traced over the buttons as he pressed them to reply.
