British Library Add. 7170 is a rare, richly illustrated 13th-century Syriac Christian manuscript, produced around 1215–1220 CE, likely in the Jazira region near Mosul, possibly at the Deir Mar Mattai. Written in Syriac using Estrangela script, it is closely related to a similar manuscript in the Vatican Library. Its artistic style combines Byzantine art influences with features found in Islamic illustrated manuscripts, reflecting a shared visual culture in 12th- and 13th-century Syria and Iraq.

8 years since the liberation of Mosul

The West Bank of Mosul also known as old Mosul where most of the old and historic buildings and houses are was subject to the most brutal and intensive fighting throughout the entire liberation front with fighters from a dozen countries and factions coming together to liberate the city.

90%+ of the East bank was destroyed during the liberation including all churches, mosques and any places of heritage. While the East Coast was only about 10-15% destroyed.

Today Mosul has taken back its place as Iraqs second largest city, re constructed 90% of its churches, mosques and a good amount of its heritage homes. Mosul re opened its international airport in 2025 and the destruction of the Prophet Jonah tomb led to the discovery of an ancient Assyrian palace complex underneath, in 2025 the worlds largest Lamassu statue was discovered there.

October 2017 MOSUL, Iraq — The price Mosul’s residents paid in blood to see their city freed was 9,000 to 11,000 dead. The number killed in the nine-month battle by the U.S.-led coalition hat included Britain, France, Canada.

A small sculpture made of limestone, measuring 9 cm high, 8 cm long, and 3 cm wide. It was discovered in the ancient Assyrian city of Nineveh and dates to the 7th century BC. Today, it is preserved in the British Museum.

The back of the sculpture is carved in the shape of a column base, and it was probably used to hold small jewelry boxes or perfume bottles.

When will Americans stop making their shitty "the invaders feel sad and traumatized about doing war crimes" movies?

Coming to theatres in March 2025, Warfare is another shitty movie from Alex Garland and an Iraqi war veteran about fascists murdering countless nameless Iraqis and looking cool as fuck just blowing shit up left and right.

And I get the feeling this shitty movie is going to be all over Tumblr because the cast includes Tumblr faves Joseph Quinn and Kit Connor.

Nearly a million Iraqis died from the unlawful and illegal American invasion of Iraq. Civilians were raped, tortured and murdered with still no accountability till today. The country is still suffering from that war. Bush and co should have been tried and convicted of war crimes at the Hague.

And here Americans are making yet more movies depicting Arabs as the faceless, nameless, dehumanized baddies getting mowed down.

Let's be clear, the Americans are the invaders here, they don't merit any fucking sympathy. It's like making a movie about the Germans as the good guys during World War II - would that ever happen? No. But because Americans still think they are the good guys while massacring countless millions in other countries, we get shitty movies like this.

If you want to watch a war movie about Iraq, watch a movie from the perspective of the people whose country was being invaded:

A view of the Al-Hadba minaret and the Great Mosque of al-Nuri, which have been reconstructed. The Al-Hadba Minaret is one of the most prominent architectural landmarks in the city of Mosul, which was destroyed by ISIS militants during the battle to retake the city from the Islamic State in late June 2017. UNESCO rebuilt the minaret which dates from the 12th century, using its old stones collected after the liberation, with a length of about 51 meters, as it was before, as part of the "Revive the Spirit of Mosul" initiative, which includes the Al-Nuri Mosque, the Al-Hadba Minaret, Our Lady of the Hour Church, and the Great Immaculate Church.
