People are always surprised when I say this is where I spent the best four years of my life. I have had a terrible lifelong wanderlust and this was the first time I was able to scratch that itch. I wish every day that I was back there, not necessarily for Iraq itself but the proximity to other places and the opportunities it afforded. Don't get me wrong, Iraq itself is amazing and so full of history but every day was Monday and that history is getting erased by backwards thinking asshats, for example the 1400 year old monastery that I got to walk around in is no longer there. Like leaves on a tree, when light becomes more dim and days grow colder the true colors have their chance to shine through. When we have hit rock bottom, and the only way to go is up, whether out of desperation or courage we can't lose sight of the light. In hopes of a brighter future, we must continue to fight for what we believe in, in all matters and areas of concern.
