Translating inscriptions around Hyrule, Round 1: Gerudo Inscriptions (there are more than seen here, just look for my own reblog, I attached the other ones to it :) )

Sooo I was a little bored today and decided to translate all Gerudo inscriptions I found in Botw/Totk (If I missed one let me now):

These five are from the Gerudo Shelter under Gerudo Town.

These three are from Riju‘s room (had to merge it into one picture due the picture limit •-•), these inscriptions are identical to the ones that can be found in the throne room (on the throne itself and to the left as well as to the right of it).

The first one can be found on (each side of) the pillars in the throne room and spring/statue behind the throne. The second one can be found on the Gerudo Warrior statues in the throne room and outside the training courtyard, as well as around the lower part of the altar in Riju‘s room.

These ones are from the Main Hideout of the Yiga Clan (the inscriptions are the same on each statue in the first room/entrance). With the last word on the statue(s) I had to improvise a little due stone covering it but it being „Flower“ does make sense if you take a look at the inscriptions from the throne and Riju’s room, but it could simply be „Flow“ as well though I think „Flower“ makes more sense.

Translating inscriptions around Hyrule, Round 2: Sheikah Insprictions

Continuing from translating the Gerudo inscriptions I went on and did the same with the Sheikah inscriptions I could spontaneously find :

The Sheikah slate modules all seem to be numbered while at the top as well as the bottom of the the menu of the slate it continuously says „Sheikah Slate“ and the rest is pretty self-explaining XD

Also the Sheikah letters that appear on the side of the slate when use is just a letter salad (though sometime you can find some in alphabetical order) and the Sheikah letters that appear when you switch to the album or further say „Hyrule Compendium“ :)

This inscription is identical on all teleportation platforms :)

The first one can be be found on the door that blocks the shrine of resurrection from the outside. The second inscription can be found twice on each Sheikah Tower “roof“ (?) (The view to the first and last letter is blocked from this angle). Ngl I expected the names of the towers being on there, but is kinda funny how an more than obvious tower has it written on it XD. The third appears when a rune or tower gets activated, which is a reference to Zelda 1 (thank you @mobgabriel for the information <3 ), also from what I can see the words just reappear around the stone. And the last one is plastered all over all shrines :)

This one is from a combat shrine :))

These three are all from the DLC. The first is from the platforms that give the locations of the champion shrines, similarly to the teleport platforms the only that is on there („dungeon“ in this case) is repeated around it. The second is from the stand that holds the One Hit Obliterator and the third one is basically from the monk in the divine trial but it’s the same every other inscription that can be found on every monk’s seat/room/chamber.

And most important for the last, I tried translating the inscriptions on the mural/painting about the calamity behind Impa, but sadly it‘s to small/blurry to decipher and that what I got was just random letters thrown together (maybe I was not thorough enough, so maybe I‘ll try again at some point).

Imagine someone gets so bored they go look for the exact spots where some video game characters once stood… well anyways, look what I found while wandering around :D

Of course the highlands won’t look identical to what they looked liked well over 10,000 years ago due to denudation (weathering, erosion and so on) but you probably get what I mean.

Villages & Settlements (5/?): Lake Illumeni Settlement Ruins

The now long abandoned settlement used to home only few people and seemingly served no clear purpose, yet when looked at in sum with its surroundings, indications of one can be found. A possibility is that this settlement housed those in charge of the windmills, or their maintenance, in the close-by Tanagar Canyon. Though in the game the windmills serve no clear purpose as well, I took to imagine that they were built to utilize the strong winds storming through the Canyon to move grinding stones and have an easy way of manufacturing a bunch of tabantha wheat flour as well as hylian rice flour.

A little detail I just noticed while taking clips of the dragons is Dinraal, Farosh and Naydra emitting sounds that sound quite similar to snoring and their eyes being more droopy/sleepy, as well as their blinks being slower/relaxed in comparison to the Light Dragon's ones, whose eyes are wide open as if keeping watch and track of its surroundings, blinking more frantic and not as often.

Overall, it does make sense that the Light Dragon/Zelda is still very much aware of her surroundings, despite her eternal sleep that comes to be when one transitions into a dragon and loses themself, due to her having to keep and protect the Master Sword until Link comes to the rescue.

I personally theorize/headcanon that this state of being asleep and wide awake is as it is due to Fi, the spirit of the Master Sword, taking control of Zelda‘s dragon form instead of the body being in Zelda‘s control, as we see her multiple times in scenes being asleep, though I nevertheless think that she still notices what is going on around her despite Fi being the one in control of the Light Dragon itself, as the Master Sword is fused to the dragon.

This little theory/headcanon of mine was just even more fueled when I noticed the Light Dragon’s eyes being extremely similar if not identical to Fi’s colour scheme, or rather the colour scheme surrounding Zeldas own eye colour matching Fi‘s (even the lashes and gold around the gem kinda match):

So overall it makes sense that the Light Dragon doesn’t show the same signs of sleep as Dinraal, Farosh and Naydra.

Could all be a pure coincidence yet it’s just to perfect to not be true, yeah idk any further.

AoI Prediction:

We‘ll see/ play the splitting of the Dueling Peaks, as they are still one mountain in the Dragon Tears Cutscenes with Zelda.

Hints to it:

The new voice memo in Breath of the Wild were Botw-Zelda is not sure how the splitting came to be, but tells about the two theories from others (carved by a dragon, or carved by a great tremor) and one from herself (she believes it to be it was caused by a battle against the Calamity ten thousand years ago).

Overall it’s likely and somewhat obvious that it will be shown in AoI, but if it won’t… that would truly be exceptionally stupid and probably out of pure laziness from Nintendos Side.
