WATCH: A New Deleted Scene From BATMAN V SUPERMAN Shows Lex Luthor Communicating With Aliens

There are a lot of criticisms that are being directed at Warner Bros’ latest contribution to the superhero genre with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. One of the most unanimous observations about the movie is that it feels disjointed and sloppily edited. It seems that there is a likely reason for this. Apparently the original cut of the movie clocked in at three hours, which is extraordinarily long for a comic book movie. The studio demanded a cut, which left over thirty minutes of the movie on the cutting room floor. Fortunately for eager fans, this additional footage will be available in a director’s cut of the movie when it’s released on blu-ray in July. (Spoilers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice below.)

Today, Warner Bros released one of the scenes which was cut from the film. In this clip, it shows exactly how Lex Luthor is arrested in the movie and hints that his connection with a mysterious being is responsible for nutty behavior. (Many are speculating that it’s Steppenwolf, a notable character from DC Comics’ cosmic side.) Even more importantly to comic fans is the presence of three Mother Boxes, which was also seen in the Cyborg origin scene. There are many functions for the devices in the comics, however they are primarily a communication (and sometimes transportation) device. It seems that Luthor is directly speaking with an alien, surely leading him to Earth. This also clarifies what Luthor was rambling about in his final jail scene with Batman.

Jesse Eisenberg’s performance of Lex Luthor was one of the more divisive aspects of the movie. While this clip certainly won’t settle the debate about his character decisions, it does hint a more full portrayal that may have been left on the cutting room floor. Regardless, these hints at the New Gods and Darkseid, should make DC fans salivate. Check out the clip.
