“There was almost no blueprint for queer women of color to have children, let alone by themselves,” performance artist Staceyann Chin said.
“Our goal was to make it as queer as we could.” 🌈

Nicole Beharie with Gina Yashere, Staceyann Chin & Laura Gomez at ‘MotherStruck: the Series’ Premiere | Tribeca Film Festival, April 2019
staceyannchin: When your friends don’t take themselves too seriously—not even on the @tribeca #RedCarpet, you can’t either. Every sister needs a band of women to encourage her to do things she’s never done before, to feel pride when she’s taken a chance, to learn from the experience and be better than she was before. @nikkibeharie is a beast in her desire to make new work. @mslauragomez is ever-positive and will show up for just about any kind of art a friend makes. @ginayashere makes unparalleled wit looks easy on stage, and takes no excuse when there’s work to be done. On any given day, these women are in the process of creating work that challenges the narrow confines of what has been prescribed for those of us tagged women, or of-color, at birth. They are #BoundaryBashers and I am so lucky to know them and call them heart-sisters. Here’s to #FriendsWhoRemindYouToLaugh —no matter where you are.
Just remembering how much I loved Motherstruck.
@itsdlevy and I were lucky enough to catch Staceyann Chin’s incredible one-woman show, Motherstruck, at Culture Project last night. Unfortunately it’s closing Friday, but she’s too great of a performer not to share this early video of her with Def Poetry.
What do a talking dog, a possessed puppet, and a feminist poet all have in common? We're on #TodayTix! #Motherstruck #HandtoGod #Sylvia
Excited to see #MotherStruck w @staceyannchin at @cultureproject_ !!
Don't Blow It is right: today is your last day to pick up last week's @timeoutnewyork featuring the half-page #Motherstruck review! @motherstruck
