Hedonistic in the sense that since they don’t really build things (their homes are usually on their backs and what they use for shelter is the undersides of leaves, the insides of logs, etc) all they really do is like. munch & crunch on food. Tomatoes and cucumbers are a large commodity there

Though happy, they’re naturally nervous and their eye stalks shrink whenever anything even mildly faster than them goes by!!

Your comfort is his ultimate concern--you don’t have a shell so how can you be sheltered? He always makes sure you have a parasol for the heat and sun and boots on to prevent you from slipping in puddles and also his slime

He could spend hours caressing your face. It might literally take him hours to do so. You appreciate it all the same

He doesn’t have the best eyesight so he really likes seeing you up close! Sometimes you have to sign things a few times over so he can catch it. He also doesn’t have ears. Snails probably aren’t the best fit for sovereignty

—but to summarize, I don't really think 'cultural colonization' is very much of an excuse for using Japanese language/culture as an aesthetic; imo other Asian cultures have plenty of great things about them as well, so I think while admiring/appreciating Japanese culture and such is all fine and dandy, it would probably be best for non-Japanese Asians to instead try to embrace aspects of their own culture instead, as generalized and stereotypical as that might sound;; but idk,I don't know shit;;

aaa no yeah sorry i didnt mean to sound like i think japanese culture is always celebrated by other cultures, especially not those of countries which japan has been historically terrible to!! i totally understand the hostility many koreans have towards japan and its shit that our nationalistic ass government wont take responsibility or apologize for our past and present actions.

i think i mean more that. because of how internet culture is and how media is consumed, a lot of younger people who weren’t directly affected by and/or dont know much about historical awfulness tend to idealize certain parts of japanese culture

and i totally agree that other asian cultures have great things about them and i definitely think everyone should be able to be proud of and celebrate their own cultures! i guess i just feel like. its easy for me to say that, since im usually not viewed negatively by white people when i celebrate my own culture because a lot of westerners have been to exposed to more japanese media/culture and tend to be more accepting of it (even though sometimes its in a fetishy way which is ofc Gross)
