Filling text with a video in Motion 5
Start a new black project in Motion. After you have started your project you are going to need to import a video to your Motion library. Once you have imported your video file, make sure your playhead is on the first frame and import your video to your Motion project.
It’s best to make sure your canvas is the same size or dimension as your video file, in other words if your video is 1920x1080 then your Motion project should be the same size — for optimal results.
1 - Select the text tool in your Motion 5 toolbar, now choose a nice fat font, something thick looks the best in my opinion, use all caps too. Type out your letters, as an example, type out CRIZZO.
2 - Select your text on your canvas, now press F1 to open the Properties tab, you will need to change the blending mode to Stencil Luma. Now your video file should reside inside your text on your canvas.
3 - Now open your Text tab, or press F4 to open the Text tab, and click on the Apperance tab. Turn on Outline, turn off the Face option. Additionally you can adjust your text to your liking, changing the size, width, color, etc.
4 - Now you will need to add the Grow/Shrink Behavior to your project. First though you will need to make sure you project is all in the same Group. If not, go ahead and drag all your layers in the a single Group. Now go to your Behaviors (press Command + 2), select Basic Motion > Grow/Shrink > Make sure your Group is highlighted, if so press Apply to add the Grow Shrink Behavior to your project. You can also drag and drop it on your Group as well. Adjust the effect to your liking.
5 - Export your project and upload. Enjoy.
