A romantic sad story about two ghosts
This story is about two ghosts being trapped inside the camera lens.
The first ghost is a very beautiful elegant young lady. She did not know how she died. She was trapped inside the camera lens for about 30 years. The first time she was ‘released’ from the camera lens because a young man who knew how to adore and admire things and themes that carry the unique style of the past. He does not think time and technology advancements will wipe out people’s precious memories of wonderful, memorable and precious things of the past. This is a key reason why he still operates a very old fashion photo gallery shop-those photo gallery shops we used to go inside to take our family photos when cameras were still a luxury item-, his shop is a legacy from his father. One day his camera industry friend lent him a collectible version of lens manufactured by a famous camera brand, a 77mm 1.4-the legendary specialize lens for people portraits.
Under the lens, the young man saw a beautiful lady whose elegant attributes could not be described in words or styles of modern times. Yet he never seems able to capture her pretty image in any of the photos. At first, he did not release the lady was a ghost. He was puzzled by the vanishing images. He found the answer one day when he noticed the lady had no reflection in the mirror. At that time, he was so astonished that he had deeply attracted by and fallen in love with the ghost. He was particularly sadden when the ghost told him she had no idea how she died. As she didn’t know how she died, she could not find her body, her soul was trapped in the lens for 30 years and her ghost become a wandering ghost-without any place to rest in place.
The young man wanted to help the pretty ghost. As he dig deeper into the pretty woman’s past, he discovered she was associated with a mysterious suicide of a famous photographer 30 years ago. He wanted to find out the connection of the death of this famous photographer and the pretty mysterious ghost. The investigation turned out to be a horror. His camera lens set free a very evil spirit which starts a series of serial killing to people who are close to the young man one by one.
The evil spirit was the lingering ghost of that famous photographer. The 77 mm 1.4 lens turned out to be the camera lens that belonged to the famous photographer. The lens showed him the terrible homicide happened 30 years ago: the famous photographer was deeply infatuated with his model. He wanted to possess her but she refused him. In the processes of their struggling and wrestling, the photographer accidentally suffocated the woman to death. He was deeply regretted. He used his lens to take many photos of the woman’s corpse before he sank her body deep into the sea. He wanted to capture the lady’s images forever. Soon after which the photographer killed himself at the studio, the same place where he killed the woman. Before he took his last breath, he set the camera lens to take down all of images of his painful struggling and his endless desires to possess the woman in eternity.
What he did not know was the lens-his specialize human portrait camera not only successfully accomplished taking down the photo images of himself and the lady, it even captured his own spirit as well as the woman inside the lens. They became chained ghosts under the stronghold of the lens.
Unless the evil spirit is destroyed, the poor pretty ghost would never able to be set free and rest in peace. That set the young man’s adventure to find out the photographer’s body and destroyed him. Of course, things would not settle without huge fighting between the alive and the wicked dead. It was the pretty ghost of the woman who eventually conquer the evil spirit. She has her freedom and rest. The young man has his own life back and a gift from the pretty ghost-the pretty ghost sent the man’s best collections of photos of the pretty things of the past and present to another famous photographer, the young man’s career eventually turned out because this famous person appreciated his excellent work.
How about the lens we use in our cameras and devices to capture things and people, images and motions around us in the past, present and future?
Do we see ghosts in our capturing process? And if so, what are those ‘ghosts’ that we consciously or unconsciously captured? Do those ghosts represent some beautiful things or people or images that we don’t want to loose memories? Or do those ghosts represent some sad, miserable and even horrible past and present that we forget? we try to retrieve?
Unless we know where the ghosts come from, unless we are willing to probably set free and let go those of the past that becomes the stronghold of our present and future, probably we will become the chained ghosts of the past, present and future; or we will always be puzzled why we see some ‘vanishing’ images, or we are haunted by unknown ghosts.
Do you take photos? Have you checked your lens?
Do you record things? Have you checked your sound and images?
Do you make movies and films? Do you aware of the motion pictures of the past, present and future?
Foresight of the future has a lot of similarities with taking photographs, recording things because we are showing motion images of the past, present and future to people but unless we are inspired by this tale, we probably never really know what are the ghosts, the puzzled vanishing images of beautiful photos, the wrestling between the live and dead, the strongholds and the freedom and peaceful rests-if the last two are some of our desired futures.
Here is a video of my flip book, 41 pages in total. I believe that the 1st attempt had worked well enough although I think I have to practice on actually flipping the booklet. As you can see the flip book is based on the same character of the contortionist but with out the knives for another of my final outcomes. The flip book looks much more fluid than the puppet stop motion video.
