Evaluation for ProCon
When we first started the Professional Context lessons in September I was really excited because I was interested in web design and I have already had some experience with making videos before, so that was a chance for me to learn new things and to develop my already gained skills. I first started doing Motion with Jules and Matt. We had the opportunity to choose between music brief and retail one. After researching on both of them, I decided to the music one because I thought that it was going to be more interesting to me as I chose one of my favourite bands- Coldplay. Firstly we started with coming up with a new logo for the band. When I started university I didn’t have almost any experience with Illustator and it was really hard for me to make my logo in the program. One of the good things was that in the beginning we had some tutorials in Illustator that helped me a lot. After a lot of practicing now I finally feel more confident working with it. I have researched in different logo sites that was suggested to us for some exciting logos that will catch my attention and inspire me for my own work. After changing my logo a couple times and receiving some feedback I was finally happy with it. One of the most exciting parts of the Motion module was going to the Green Studio , experimenting with the equipment there and learning how to make stop motion videos. I haven’t got any experience with Final Cut at all. It was all new to me. Before that I only worked with Sony Vegas and I hoped that it’s going to be the same principle. Final Cut looked way more professional than Sony Vegas but over the time with the help of Jules and Matt we learned the basics of the program, how to make different effects and to keyframe. My initial idea for video, on which I made a storyboard, was to gather together all of my friends and they to start acting like a group because I wanted to come up with completely new band in the beginning. After that I realized that this is impossible because there was no way all of them to be available at the same time for shooting. So than I changed my idea and decided to make a promotional video for existing band because mixing my own footage with the group’s original one was a lot more easier. To be fair I did my footage really spontaneous. One day I just went out in the city center searching for different kind of street musicians that I can shoot pretending to be part of my group. My storyboard is now really different than the one I made in the beginning. The only thing that remained the same through the whole time was the first couple seconds of my video. It is a stop motion of a ticking bomb, that I made myself at home. The idea was something like counting the time till the tour of the band begins and making people excited. Than we finished our lessons with Jules and Matt and started these with Hannah and Pete. I was really excited about web designing because that is one of the things that I have never done in my life but I wanted to. I was taught how to use grid system, how to make successful header and footer and to make the website easier to navigate. I decided to keep the comics conception that I had in my video in my website too. So I tried to create this effect in my header and with the usage of different kind of fonts. However before starting the website we were shown some interesting responsive websites to inspire us. I also researched for interesting websites on my own to gain some ideas how to make my own one more successful. For my website colours I used a site that Hannah showed us called Adobe Kuler and there I created my own pallet with complementary colors that I used after that. Overall, this was one of my favourite modules for the whole first year. I’m pleased with my final results especially the website and the brochure. I think that the video could be done better. I also learned how to use a lot of new editing software and I’m really happy about it. The fact that the Motion and Web Design was so exciting to me made me also chose M/Int as a pathway for the second year.
