Any tips for a starting artist? I often my selfworth by people liking my art or not, and because ive just started i dont really get much engagement. I know I shouldn’t mesure my self worth with people liking my art or not but because of financial issue its getting more and more on my mind.
Hello!! If you're just starting out, I'd say try not to be too hard on yourself. Also don't set too many expectations! I think if you keep putting out art for the sole purpose of getting engagement, you truly won't be happy :/
Personally, I draw bc it's my outlet and a way for me to indulge myself. When I try to remember the reason why I draw (that reason being me & my own happiness), it gets a little easier. Also instead of getting disheartened by the lack of engagement, try to find joy in the little things! Getting a few ppl to like your work isn't so bad when you think about it. The fact that there are ppl out there who appreciates it is already something to be thankful about! :)
But yeah it does get harder if you try making art for a living (esp. if you're just starting). I'm guessing that's where your self-doubts are coming from. Tbh I feel you but it's something I'm also struggling with atm so I can't really give you much advice about that, sorry. u_u I think the best thing you can do is to try out different things (commissions, patreon, ko-fi, online shop, etc.) & see what works for you since that's the only way you'll truly know!
