Tuesday morning with Keith. After warm-ups we got into some bridging practice in preparation for some nice details on the oompa escape from mount.
With opponent mounting you, use your right hand to get an inside sleeve grip right next to their right elbow.
Use your left to grab the seam behind opp’s right arm and pull the arm down so their elbow is centered on your belly.
Use your left elbow to push opp’s right knee down, and then trap it with your left foot. In this variation, you want to turn your left knee to the left so it’s almost parallel with the mat.
Clamp your left elbow over opp’s right knee and bridge up hard, turning your head to look directly behind you.
Once you get about halfway, you can turn over your hips to finish the escape.
We also worked on a couple of variations based on the opponent defending.
If opponent brings their far arm to the mat to base out and prevent the escape:
Wrap your left arm around their elbow
Settle back onto your back
Reach your right arm over opp’s left shoulder and grab behind their collar.
Bridge and roll to your right.
If opponent bases out hard to their left once you’ve trapped their arm:
Reach your right arm over opp’s left shoulder and grab behind their collar
Pull them back to the center, then continue right away into the bridge and roll.
Some tough rolls after that work. Did some positional and some good old fashioned live.
