Part II: Bands of Siblings
There are a few bands here in Richmond that like to keep things in the family. I'm talking about bands that involve brothers and sisters playing together. I honestly thought I'd be able to come up with more than this, so please send any additions my way. Here they are in no particular order:
The Northerners
Brother and sister Justin and Ally Khoury both front the roots/jam band The Northerners, and they're making waves in the local and national scenes. Come out to The Camel on Monday, 4/29 w/ The Idiomatics and Imaginary Sons with or 5/17 @ Cary Street Cafe.
The Blue Rajas
Sisters Zoe and Gracie Golden stomp out some garage rock tunes with great gusto in this duo. I couldn't find much info about what's next for them but they did have a good time on April Fool's Day on their Facebook page.
The Trongone Band
Not only does The Trongone Band involve brothers Andrew and Johnny Trongone but also father John Trongone. The blues/jam band knows its way around classic rock very well. The band plays every Thursday at Cary Street Cafe.
Mount Lion
Three siblings and a spouse make up the band Mount Lion, formerly the Frye Collective: Erin Frye, Basil Frye, Tucker Frye, and Amber Blankenship Frye. The band plays emotional folk pop with an underlying spirituality. Check them out next week at First Friday, 5/3 @ Gallery 5 with Lobo Marino, Zac Hryciak & the Jungle Beat, and Dr. Dukes.
The Green Boys

The Green Boys feature brothers Sean and Ryan Green who are originally from Fredericksburg. The four-piece plays some of the most engaging roots rock around. They are about to release an album (Oh Delia) thanks to a very successful Kickstarter. Come out to the CD release show 5/17 @ The Camel with Jackass Flats.
River City Band

You'll find brothers Jesse and Trevor Spencer on mandolin and banjo, respectfully, in River City Band. Check out this bluegrass band on 5/2 @ Legend Brewery's Brews and Bluegrass for Happy Hour with Heart benefiting Happy Camper Productions.
Sacred Teachers

There are two (half) brothers in the Sacred Teachers: Boney Loner (vox) and Nick Driver (guitar). This screeching garage rock four-piece has got a seriously awesome live set. Check them out 5/14 @ Strange Matter w/ Cosmonauts, Peace Beast, and Naked Baby. They are going to announce more shows via Facebook really soon.
Freaky J and the Bears
We missed putting this band on the list! This band is even playing our Sounds of RVA Showcase @ Bogart's on 6/22 along with two other Subterranea Collective bands. Brothers Casey and Hunter Graham make up two thirds of this post-punk trio.
