Mount Magazine AR Road Trip

For the 4th of July weekend 2023 we took a road trip to Mount Magazine Arkansas from Dallas Texas, this was one of the most relaxing road trips that we have taken thus far. The scenery was breathtaking, there were a lot of hiking trails, the state park was very peaceful.

We started the road trip from Allen Texas and drove north east towards Mount Magazine. On the way we stopped at Chocktow Casino in Durant OK for dinner and reached Mount Magazine at about 11pm CST.

One of the favorite spots in the Mount Magazine was the Mount Magazine Lodge. The Lodge had rooms with amazing views of the Blue Mountain Lake

The Mount Magazine lodge is a 60 room quite lodge with access to all hiking trails close by.

While we were in Mount Magazine definitely recommend hiking the trails, the most famous one being the Signal Hill trail which is the highest point in the state of Arkansas.

This is a great relaxing weekend getaway to unwind and relax. Kids will love the hikes, the deer, humming birds and butterflies sightings.

Earth’s Elder This gnarled old elder of nature clings tenuously to its rocky vantage, defying the elements and seemingly growing out of solid rock. I had been given a tip off about location to shoot at Mount Magazine and had hiked into the park mid afternoon with high hopes. After a frustrating few hours of shooting where everything seemed to be against me, I eventually gave up and headed dejectedly back to the truck. I had noticed this tree earlier, but against a backdrop of sunset it took on a completely different possibilities. The sunset had just began to kick in as I set up and I had to work fast to beat the encroaching darkness. I only got a few rolls off before I lost the light, but when I saw the depth and colour of this shot I was completely blown away. An image that happened almost by accident turned out to be one of the killer shots of the trip! #photography #arkansaslove #mountmagazine #getoutside #sunset #picoftheday #landscapephoto #photochat
