just because i don't say i'm disabled in the OP doesn't mean i'm not, alright? i have asbergers and cerebral palsy. do not assume i'm abled when i'm not.
okay, fine.
that doesn’t mean everyone else wants to be cured, or that curing is the solution to ableism. the issue is still there whether you're disabled or not.
and frankly, i’ve heard abled people express that thought a LOT. so it was a natural assumption - just like i’m more likely to assume sexists are men, i’m more likely to assume ableists are abled.
and frankly there was just so much wrong with that post like… “(not getting cured) is just diversity for diversities sake” waaat? It’s not a decision a person makes based on the resources available; it’s just ‘for diversity’s sake’?
"there’s no thing wrong with being mentally "normal"" no one is saying that. people do say there’s stuff wrong with being neuroatypical or mentally ill tho.
it “Needs” to be cured?
anti depressants cure depression, not just treat it?
I’m not the real me for having a disorder?
tbh you being disabled doesn’t make the post any less reprehensible. Like, don’t throw other disabled people under a bus. If YOU want a cure for YOURSELF (not a family member; it’s the family member’s decision whether they want a cure or not) fine, but don’t yell at other people or act like we’re wrong for either not wanting to change or just freaking not having the resources (b/c they don’t exist). We can be proud of our differences at the same time as not wanting to ditch them, at the same time as wanting to ditch them, whatever.
the overall post was so condemning over such a large swath of disabled people
