hello lovelies guess who has (finally) recovered from having their ✨wisdom teeth out✨
i will not lie: it was unpleasant! BUT! as any normal and healthy person would, i counseled myself through it via thinking about how i could inflict this pain onto characters 😌 and now, i pass this knowledge on to you!
coming out of anesthesia is a WEIRD process. you really are just in and out of it for a while. tunnel vision at first, then blurred vision. i kept passing out and waking up and not remembering if what had happened before i passed out was a dream or not— it all FELT like a dream, kind of? except i was also really really thirsty
i couldn't talk (obviously) so i kept trying to use asl but no one around me knew it. the nurses thought i was blowing kisses for some reason when I WAS SIGNING THANK YOU!!! thats not whump relevant im just still mad.
mouth remained really numb for several hours after general anesthesia had worn off, which was weird and uncomfortable
nosebleeds happen after mouth surgery sometimes apparently. HATED that
the pain was never all that terrible honestly— the WORST part by far was coming off of the really strong pain meds to regular tylenol. i basically just cried the whole day without really knowing why— i'd felt sore but fine for three days and now suddenly i felt the same amount of sore but also completely miserable and wrung out like an old dishtowel. please inflict pain med withdrawal on your whumpees for me in revenge
the other worst thing about mouth pain is that you can't eat as much because it hurts, and what you can eat is really light, so you're hungry and low on energy while all the energy your body has is being directed to healing. so that fucking sucks. and the not being able to eat as much persists even after the daily pain decreases, and you get used to expecting it to hurt when you bite down really fast. i basically had to relearn how to chew and that was after only 5 days!
also my entire lower face was bruised (& swollen!) to the point where people kept wincing when they saw me haha
one last fun little note re: bruising: the fun thing about bruises is its really easy to forget theyre there, brush something against them a little too fast or hard, and be Suddenly Reminded
i hope this is useful to someone! i'd like to think i got some experience out of it haha. if anyone has follow up questions im open o7
