another incredible reason to use Mozilla Thunderbird instead of MS Outlook:
when you hit 'reply' on an email in the Sent folder — let's say, to follow up on something — it sets up a reply to the recipients of the original email, and not to yourself, the sender of the email in the first place, which is something MS Outlook things you want to do, write a follow up from an email you sent earlier and then send it to yourself.

Found out how to reduce/remove severe Thunderbird lag
The problem primarily affects people who use Gmail accounts in (seemingly any version of) Mozilla Thunderbird, and whose Gmail accounts have been active for some years already. The problem is with Gmail's Important folder, typically found on the very bottom of an E-mail account's folder list; its exact name depends on the Gmail account's language.
Thunderbird can quite possibly get stuck trying to download "new" E-mails from that folder, causing heavy input lag, problems closing alarms, softlocking, duplicate results in message searches, and so on.
Gmail will generally refuse to delete its Important folder under any circumstances, and Thunderbird doesn't have any options to completely disregard that folder, so we'll have to do some workarounds:
Right-click on the Important folder → Properties. In Retention Policy, set "Delete messages more than ___ days old" to, let's say, 14 days. "Always keep starred messages" being on is convenient, but not required.
In Synchronisation, set "Select this folder to offline use" to off.
That should normally be all that is needed to do. Thunderbird will now run at least noticeably faster.
