He partly did not expect Yeji's question, even though he was pretty sure she had witnessed the whole video call between Ahri and him. Their conversation was still safe enough to be carried out in public, but it was almost impossible to deny that love was in the air. The call should be just to remind her that they would go out for dinner later that evening, but knowing himself, Ayden could not just let Ahri hang up without turning her into all giggly and blushing with his flirty remarks.

"No, not all, I actually treat just one lady like that," Ayden suddenly found himself being sheepish, his cheeks got warm and there must be a super shy smile on his face. It was somewhat awkward to admit it aloud, especially to his twin sister, but Yeji would always be the very first person he would like to break the news to. "So, Ahri and I, we are dating, she's my girlfriend now."

A summer gala starter for @mpyeji

Truth be told, Ayden was fashionably late to the gala on purpose. It was partly because making a thunderous entrance was surprisingly never his cup of tea, and mostly because obviously, he wished to keep his presence a secret for a little while. 

Seeing glamours in all shapes and sizes blooming around the hall made Ayden briefly regret not bringing his camera along. But it wasn’t a working night tonight, the son of Inari reminded himself, and so he eased his way into the boisterous seasonal joy with a little wine and a couple of chit chats. 

It didn’t take long until Ayden spotted the sight he had been anticipating to see. Yeji’s stunning outfit and hair-do instantly put a proud smile on his face, even though it was dimmed just a slightly bit as feline-like eyes landed on her companion of the night. He had got no history with his twin sister’s date, yet that wasn’t enough to keep his over-protective-brother mode get triggered. Anyhow, it was the perfect time to let Yeji know that her twin brother was back. 

Sneakily, he went through the crowd to approach her from behind, and with the most exciting voice tone he could muster after a long flight and hurried gala preparation, Ayden said, “Boo!!”

"So, if by 'food' you meant pastries, then we're about to have plenty here, we just need about three minutes to refill!" Eirwen chuckled, finding the other demigoddess's question and herself pleasantly adorable. The bakery had entered its busiest time of the year, and thanks to the residents' passionate love, there would be moments when almost nothing was left in the display cabinets, just like this one.

"But if you meant any kind of food, then..." Eirwen fished for something hidden in the lower drawer underneath the cashier's desk, then handed it to the other demigoddess. A chocolate salted caramel high protein bar. "You can try this! It's super yummy, I can guarantee!"

"Oh, nothing, it's part of our latest promotion!"

Eirwen beamed at the lovely demigoddess, her eyes seemed to sparkle in the colorful decorative lights of the Black Forest bakery. She put two gingermans in the bakery's Christmas-themed signature box, skilfully tightened a bright red ribbon on the top, then put the box in a bigger bag together with the customer's orders.

"There you go," she presented the bag to the other demigoddess with a polite smile. "Thank you so much for coming to the Black Forest bakery. Bon appétit!"

It dawned on Lio then that throughout the timeline of their knowing each other, he indeed gave Yeji a hand to get out of muddy situations more than once. Now that he got to think about it, Lio started to wonder if Lady Luck and Yeji got a really bumpy relationship, or if he was actually her jinx.

Just a few minutes ago, while making his way home, he spotted this creep luring around a dark corner, as if waiting for Yeji to walk right into his trap. Just like what a friend should do, he sped up, called her name, started a casual conversation as he subtly navigated her toward another route, then briefly explained what he saw once they were back to the safe zone.

"It's nothing, really, just the least I can do," Lio replied with a soft smile. "Are you okay walking alone from here? Or would you like me to accompany you back home?"

“How long have you been in that gift box?”

Ayden's drowsy eyes lifted up, trying to navigate where Yeji's voice was coming from. A goofy smile bloomed instantly on his lips once he saw his twin sister's face, his fox ears twitched once, twice in place of his 'good morning', or whatever good the time of the day was, to her.

"Uhmm, I'm not sure . What time is it?" He said the first question formed in his mind, his head felt heavy and the world was spinning slowly on the remnants of the eggnogs he downed last night.

"I can't breathe, Yeji."

The dense nasal in his voice was palpable in the air, standing as the strongest proof of his statement. Ayden visibly abhorred how whiny he sounded like, for it reminded him that despite having divine legacy running in his veins, a part of him was still very much a vulnerable human who could be beaten up by a sudden cold. Curling up into a ball under a thick blanket was definitely not how he wanted to get through these beautiful summer days, but what he truly cared about how was how to breathe by his nose and not his itchy throat.

Lio spilt those out in one go, then paused himself for a few seconds, striving to recall how he knew whatever he had just said. Flash of genius, let's say. But he knew he was digressing.

"But anyway, are you sure you agree with that saying though? Fear will always win over love?" The demigod wasn't trying to start a serious debate, more like playing the devil's advocate so that he could hear more of Yeji's opinion. It wasn't common knowledge just yet, but Lio hardly ever let go of the chance to have such impromptu moments of exchanging ideas like those.
