Pretty Doll
starter for @mpyiyang ft Wukong & Yiyang
“Pretty doll with tears, tears, tears-”
Wukong’s soft, deep voice quietly sings the old Chinese nursery rhyme, as he rocks from side to side, the soft eyelashes of the little girl in his lap fluttering against plump, white cheeks like freshly steamed buns. Her hands tenderly clutching the soft, brown tufts of his tail, pressing it to her lips and running it through her fingers as if the feel of it were a comfort, like an old teddy bear. With each quiet rumble of his voice, her eyelids become heavier, struggling to stay awake in his arms. The sound of her soft breathing a comfort, as he watches her slip away, enjoying the precious moments with a child that was not his own, but the family of someone important to him.
"Pretty little dolly” words cooed to her from bushes as she walked to school, surprise visits or planned birthday celebrations. It was written in her birthday cards, and was even on the cheque made out to her the day she graduated high school. Wukong watched over the little girl of his old friend, Cao-Guijiu, for a friendship forged lifetimes ago, and a debt he could never repay.

Yiyang had always been an odd one, but for Wukong, odd was relative. He was far from normal himself and when he looked at her, all he saw was a bright, happy young woman with such a beautiful face, he was sure he would need to beat back the boys from her door! Others say she was strange, to him she was perfect, and a lot like her father. They have he same eyes, it was as much a blessing and a curse to gaze into them sometimes. Yet above all Yiyang was her own person and Wukong enjoyed her.
“Wake up, sleepy head” Wukong chuckles softly as he stands above the dosing demigoddess, blocking the spring sun with his shadow across her, as he’d found her snoozing, without a care, in a patch of daisies in the park. “I think I’ve found somewhere you an work” he hums triumphantly, thinking he’s found just the place.
