I basically like the story of the kid from the mines who finds his crystal there but I don't want that kid to be Sportacus specifically because Sportacus spent his childhood with his father and older brother. But I don't want to completely abandon the mines story
Okay, so I know that people have explained this a bunch of times before, but since i’ve noticed a lot of people talking about it recently i’m gonna reexplain the canceled LazyTown movie with my own flair.
First, here’s a link to concept art for said movie - link
Second, here’s a link to a post featuring information about Sportacus/other characters supposed back stories which were going to be shown further in the movie - link
Alright, so this is going to be part speculation and part fact - because there’s a lot about the movie we don’t know and some things from the movie seem to have been recycled into other Lazytown productions ( Ævintýri í Latabæ). I will be pulling lore from other pieces of LazyTown media to analyze the film.
So judging by the concept art, the movie was going to be part flash back part average Robbie Rotten scheme in present time - I say that because some of the concept art seems very similar to the stuff seen in Ævintýri í Latabæ
Notice how both robots in the first picture have a star on their forehead? Also notice the stars on the Robots in the second picture. It’s clear that the Robot concept art from the movie was taken and recycled for the play. I’d also like to point out the similar concept art for the robot dog for the movie and the play
I’d aditionally like to share this concept art of Robots on scooters (that kinda look like they have Robbie’s pompadour - I thought that was neat :3)
So Ævintýri í Latabæ (for those of you who don’t know) is the lost LazyTown play - it ran for a very short time, and was never recorded. Plot information has been lost too, though we do know from the general synopsis (found here - link) and from this forum post on GetLazy (link) what happens overall in the play - Robbie clones himself (Ft. We Are Number One but a full play)
He takes over the town and instates himself as dictator Mayor with an army of Robot Police. He outlaws sports and banishes Sportacus from town - and the GetLazy forum states that Robbie’s plan was to basically gentrify LazyTown for profit
There is concept art from the movie with a booming LazyTown metropolis which makes me think that in the movie, Robbie becomes a real estate tycoon and becomes filthy stinking rich from selling and developing LazyTown land (see the skyscraper with Robbie’s initials)
So I believe in the movie, Robbie was supposed to take over Lazytown and kick out Sportacus. I think maybe the Plot of the LazyTown episode “Robiticus” took from the movie as well, seeing as there’s concept art for a Robot similar to Roboticus for the movie
So this leads me to believe that in the movie, Robbie made Roboticus to kick Sportacus out of town - and then he made the rest of the robot army to take over all of LazyTown.
That leads me to the flashback part of the Movie - and what ties it to Robbie’s evil scheme. There are screenshots from the Ævintýri í Latabæ play with Sportacus in a forest
I don’t know for certain, but I believe this might be Sportacus while he was ‘banished’ from LazyTown. Just chillin in a forest, maybe training... though I believe that in the movie, Sportacus would be traveling through this forest to ‘confront’ his past so to speak (we’ll get back to this later)
Now it’s time for Sportacus’s backstory!
So basically, Sportacus’s tragic backstory is that he was a child slave. No joke.
According to the second link I shared, Sportacus was orphaned as a young child. He had foster parents who sold him into slavery (though the screenshot of the reference text seems to say that they were manipulated into selling him with promises of financial relief and schooling for the young Sportacus - they thought that they were doing what was best for him)
The man who enslaved Sportacus (as well as many other children) was called “Mr. Kicker” by the children - because he was cruel and would kick and beat them.
He called the children numbers instead of names, because to him the children weren’t human. Sportacus was number 10 (which was the only name Sportacus ever knew)
I’d like to point out the numbers on the three children’s uniforms here. The first boy is obviously Sportacus - but I find it weird that in this concept art he’s referred to as “1″, as well as with the promotional poster I shared at the top of this post when we know him as Number 10. I assume it’s because he’s like the leader of the group of children so he’s “number one” but whatever. The girl next to him is 7, and the boy on the far right I think might be like 127??? I can’t know for sure. Also, I think the girl was supposed to be like his love interest or something (Eugh)
Anyway, Sportacus and the other children were forced to work in mines - horribly dangerous and dusty mines. FUN FACT - apparently Sportacus’s mustache was supposed to be the result of him rubbing coal dust from the mines on his face. I’m not sure how that works??? Like is the mustache made of coal? Did it exfoliate his face to the point that facial hair only grew from those two little patches on his face?? Idk, but i’m throwing that fact in here.
It was in the mines that Sportacus and the other children found crystals that glowed whenever someone was in danger/about to be hurt. I can’t find a reference for this fact, but I swear I remember reading something about the kids using the crystals as a warning signal for when Mr. Kicker was coming. Also, according to the very bottom of this wiki, Sportacus goes to bed at 8:08 because that’s when Mr. Kicker put the children to bed.
The kids would play sports in whatever free time they had, and in secret Sportacus built a hot air balloon. He used it to escape, and then came back to free the other children and defeat Mr. Kicker.
Now, you see the concept art for the really tall tower? I swear I remember reading somewhere (I don’t have the sources for it - sorry, I spent like an hour trying to find it but I think the post was deleted) that after Mr. Kicker was killed defeated, the now freed children turned the tower into a base. They became heroes, using the crystals from the mines to help them save people. That one girl in the concept art was hero number 7, and Sportacus was the 10th hero. They traveled the world in their airships, going from town to town, helping kids.
That’s Sportacus’s backstory - now, how it connects with Robbie’s evil scheme!
So in the screenshot from Ævintýri í Latabæ with Sportacus in the forest during his banishment, I think this would be the part in the movie where Sportacus is traveling back to the super hero command base in order to get the help of the other heroes to save LazyTown. He gets there, and that’s where we meet the over heroes - including being reintroduced to number seven as an adult as well as finally seeing what number nine looks like. They all team up with Sportacus to go and defeat the evil robot army and save LazyTown (to the tune of the final battle in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over X’D) Sportacus faces off against Roboticus and defeats him, Robbie gets overthrown as mayor and Milford is reinstated, and everything is happily ever after.
So yeah - that’s what I believe the LazyTown Movie was supposed to be (or what it could have been) I’ve been working on this post for four hours, so i’m gonna wrap it up now X’D. What do y’all think?
