Patrice O'Neal – Mr. P (listen in Spotify) 

When Patrice O'Neal passed away earlier this year, the comedy community was rightly devastated. He was widely considered one the most impressive comedians alive, despite having achieved only moderate popular success. Part of the reason for this was that Patrice's recorded material never fully captured the experience of being in the room with him; this album, released after his death is the exception. One thing that separates this album from his specials is how clearly and expertly Patrice blurs the separation between jokes and conversation with the audience. Pay attention to how effortlessly Patrice finds comedy within the room at the beginning of the albm, how he gets the audience to open up about their personal lives, and how quick he is to call people out on their bullshit. Seriously terrific.
