Mr. Squirrel and Matthias watch as Jess prepares to climb to the roof.
Jess: This year, I lost my dear husband.
Mr. Squirrel: Quit telling everyone I’m dead!
Jess: Sometimes I can still hear his voice.
Mr. Squirrel says it’s nap time! That makes it so...
I think I need to make something clear. I have been critical of Maya since Bear aired, but I do not hate the character. While I may not like her right now, I do not hate the character and want to like her again. Most of my criticism is directed at how their friendship has been portrayed, and most of that, unfortunately, I must lay at Riley’s feet. Maya has actually been consistent in her character.
In Truth, Riley was disappointed in Maya and let that disappointment be known. In Friendship, Riley prevented Maya from using the voice recording to besmirch Lucas’ name. At some point, this changed to where she just started to accept that this was who Maya was and this is what Maya did.
I lay the blame of this on Eric. In Mr. Squirrels, we were introduced to the idea that “When the truth is more important than friendship, that’s the end of friendship.” Like in most things, Riley took this idea to the extreme. From that point, the only thing that mattered was the friendship. Although there were instances where she became upset...First Date when Maya asked Lucas out...they became fewer and farther between. Even in Triangle when she was trying to get a reaction out of Maya, that was less about being upset with Maya’s actions and more trying to get Maya back to being Maya.
Part of friendship has to be being critical when your friend is in the wrong. Maya may not like it and throw a tantrum (like she did in Mr. Squirrel), but in the long run it will make their friendship stronger. As it stands right now, Maya is taking advantage of Riley’s good and trusting nature and Riley is letting her.
Meanwhile in Youtube... Mr. Squirrel teaches you how to play Touhou.

I’m thinking if rewriting Soul Piece from Mr. Squirrel’s perspective.
