Mads Mikkelsen for Mr.Porter by Bjorn Iooss
We failed each other
If we had only tried harder, each of us
To reach out, to understand,
To trust each other
To let ourselves help and be helped
It would have made all the difference
Mr.Porter
Mr. porter.
Devendra Banhart x Mr. Porter
It took long enough for the high fashion world to recognise Devendra Banhart as one of the most stylish individuals in the game, but as they say, better late than never. The charismatic songwriter, singer and artist, besides being one of the most talented individuals I’ve come across to this day, is also the bearer of an unparalleled aura and presence, further emphasized by a distinctively eclectic/bohemian personal style. Ever since I had the pleasure of watching him perform some 7 years ago at the small Portuguese northern city of Santa Maria da Feira (which, by the way, is the title of one of his songs), I was drawn not only to his music but to the individual as well.
Stepping to the stage barefoot in a bohemian-hippiesque ensemble comprised of wide patterned trousers and a tunic, accessorized by a huge glass of red wine, his presence was as striking as his music. Back in those days, with a Jesus-like long hair and beard, his energy was a force to be reckoned with. Years have passed and I’ve closely followed his journey to this day, from the numerous fantastic albums to his style evolution, the latter catching the eye of eyewear brand-extraordinaire Olivers People who feature him on a video campaign.
Recently, Devendra was the star of a Snapchat output for luxury brand Missoni and was a revered presence at the SS17 Milan fashion shows. On a much deserved highlight, Mr. Porter features the Venezuelan musician wearing a variety of high-end garments on the comfort of his L.A. home, showcasing once again that unrelated of the influences behind personal style, if it comes effortlessly and as a natural extension of self, it’s a critical element of who we are as individuals.
