comment: everyone’s reading this au already, right? right. good. and it is good. so good. i was yearning for some more sci-fi content about our favourite aliens and @aewriting delivered tenfold. as always, their fic deals with some heavier themes, but they slot perfectly into the scifi setting and the overall tone of the story. i don’t want to spoil anything, so check the tags before getting into it, and enjoy!

No, they’d gotten him on a normal Wednesday, up in Albuquerque, right before Christmas..

When Alex and Michael are caught by Jesse and imprisoned together, they find themselves facing increasingly desperate circumstances. Will they be able to find a way out when it's clear that Jesse has no plans to let them out alive?

comment: any fic that involves the capture of one or both halves of your ship has the potential to be devastating and boy howdy does this fic deliver. probably don’t start this one if you’re looking for a feel-good fic, but if you’re in the mood to enjoy some angst, hate jesse manes, and get real sad about boys who will endure anything for one another, i can’t recommend this fic highly enough. the emotions in this author’s fics are always so raw, so near to the surface, and despite how much it hurt me, i would read it again a thousand times.

Michael honestly hadn’t even realized it was December 23rd when he’d headed to the bar tonight. It had been a long day at the junkyard and, like so many other nights in recent memory, all he wanted was a cold beer and a warm body.

When Michael unexpectedly encounters Alex at a bar, misunderstandings ensue. But a freak snowstorm may be just what it takes to force them to finally communicate with each other.

comment: if you like tropes, this one’s for you! featuring jealousy, a snowstorm, only one bed, communication, reconciliation, and a hopeful ending. it’s not a rom com holiday fic, so be aware of that going in, but my god it’s good.

“God, you’re such a fuckin’ asshole.”

“The fuck, trailer trash?”

Michael rolls his eyes. He hadn’t actually meant to say it so loud, but whatever. He raises his eyebrows and looks at Valenti.

“You heard me. You’re a fuckin’ asshole.” His eyes dart, quickly, in the direction of Alex Manes, who’s already retrieved his notebook off the ground and is stalking away, muttering to himself.

In the process of sticking it to Valenti, Michael inadvertently becomes a Division I college football recruit.

comment: michael as a college football player? i don’t know where you guys come up with this stuff but i am loving it. even with my (very) limited knowledge of american college/football, i tore through this fic and had no trouble understanding everything. i love the ways that michael’s relationships shift and change with his new position, especially when he takes isobel with him. and don’t worry; there’s some fabulous malex stuff in there as well. pining in highschool? check. fortuitous meeting down the road? check. sweetness and light and all good things? check. i really really enjoyed this one. it’s amazing how the story (esp the second half) is told through little scenes and tidbits. love it. would read again a thousand times.
