Rena x Ventus, where Rena gently let's Raven down because she'd rather be with a male elf and Raven takes it pretty nicely. (Fluff please)
“If you’re going to ask me out,” Rena said quietly, “please don’t.”
Raven stopped mid-breath. Rena glanced at him out of the corner of her eye and sighed.
“I thought so,” she said, half to herself. “Raven, I know you’ve had a crush on me for a long time. And let me guess, it’s Ventus’ flirting that’s finally pushed you to do something about it?”
She didn’t wait for him to nod. In her long life, this was something she’d seen many times over from humans.
“Raven, I am an elf. I’m going to be alive and young long after you’re dead. I’d rather not bond to you as a romantic companion, and then have to go through the pain of your aging and dying. I’ve seen human lovers even resent their elven counterparts for our lifespans.” She smiled. “Ventus is my age. He’s kind and brilliant at magic, and I have strong connections within our realm to bring him back into elven society if that’s what he wants.”
Raven said nothing. He wouldn’t even look at Rena. She hesitated, then put her hand on his shoulder.
“Raven?”
Silence.
“Raven, I’m not Seris.”
He jolted, and Rena bit the inside of her cheek, debating how far to push this.
“She’s dead, Raven. I can’t be a replacement. As much as I value our friendship, please don’t pursue me romantically. I love Ventus.”
“This isn’t about Seris,” Raven whispered hoarsely, like he was trying to keep his voice from breaking into tears. “It’s about you.”
“And I’ll be happy with Ventus.” Rena remained firm. Raven sighed and pressed the heel of his human palm to his eyes.
“Alright,” he said after a few moments. “Alright. I won’t do anything to pressure you. But…”
Rena waited. Raven dragged his hand down his face and then looked at her.
“We’re still friends, right?”
Rena smiled and put her arm around him, giving him a gentle squeeze. “Of course.”
