Katie didn’t regret wrecking the side of Bianca’s car The thought came to her instantly when she spotted the girl in the parking lot, her fingers threaded with Drew’s as they entered the school. That was all the prompting it took for her anger to boil over. It was almost a relief to be feeling something other than sadness; Katie knew her eyes will still a little red from the night before, and she hated how obvious it was. But Drew had meant something to her in only the way a first real relationship could. Not only that, but she’d given him one of the most important, intimate pieces of herself only to realize that it had meant nothing. Getting some petty revenge was all Katie could do to express herself. It meant getting detention for a full week--something that had never happened to her before--but she was too drained to care. It wasn’t as though she had anything to look forward to after school anymore. Mr. Martin was the one in charge of detention for the day. Normally the man could brighten up any class, his natural charisma making it impossible to feel unhappy. Today, though, nothing could interrupt Katie’s crappy mood. She made her way into his classroom and noticed that no one else was in there for the afternoon, which served her just fine. The less people she had to deal with, the better. She passed by Mr. Martin’s desk with no greeting, only slapping down her detention slip against it before occupying one of the desks in the room.
