Behold, our lovely Summer issue! We didn't have a theme for this issue, but due to acquiring some shiny new contributors we ended up with a zine full of comics and illustrations, even the question for Poppet was about art supplies!

Sarahwoolf (that's me) did the cover and overlay this time.

Lilywoolf wrote us another exciting Lesbian Heroes article, this time about Alison Bechdel of Dykes to Watch Out For fame.

Meg Guindon drew us another 2-page comic!

Sarahwoolf's regular Sewing Sans Pattern feature shows you how to make a playsuit for the hot Summer weather.

Gem Sheldrake drew us an adorable, summery, Animal Crossing illustration. Seen opposite Stepping Stones, a 4-page comic by Sarahwoolf.

New contributor Mair Thomas sent us a 3-page comic called The Path to Self-Determination. We're very excited to have her work in the zine!

Deborah Clerkin drew us a little bee-themed gag strip! Opposite is another weird and wonderful illustration from Clem Tarrant.

Sarahwoolf (using information from a timely gift from Lilywoolf) wrote an article about how we can help preserve our poor bees.

Sammy Borras returns with her regular Stale Symphony comic! This time with an extra bonus page detailing yet another allergy-conscious biscuit recipe!

Last but not least, Poppet the House Hob enlists the aid of Henrietta the Antique Doll to help another hapless human choose the right dip-pen.

We were really pleased with all the submissions this time! Please keep an eye out for guidelines for submitting to the Autumn issue, coming very soon. We'll also be updating the events page, with some Autumn cons and zine fairs where we'll be selling the latest issues.

Call for Submissions

Hello hello, Woolves! I'm pleased to report we did a very brisk trade at London MCM Expo, and we've funded some future tables! We also sold out of the Spring 2013 issue, so we'll be doing a second print run.

It's also time for submissions for the Summer 2013 issue! This issue has no theme, and we're looking for articles, illustrations, recipes, how-tos, poetry, short stories, comics, puzzle pages, questions for Poppet, anything and everything! If you'd like to read it when you pick up a zine, it's worth submitting. We would like to remind everyone that What's the Time, Mrs Woolf is women and girls only, but otherwise submissions are completely open!

The deadline for this issue is the 6th of July. Submissions sent later than 6th July will be considered for the Autumn issue instead.

Hello hello! This is Sarahwoolf, with some photos of the latest zine, and the first in the new Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter schedule. So far we've taken this to Bristol Expo, and had good sales and a lot of positive feedback, so we're very pleased with how it turned out. We also sold out of issue 2!

In this issue we have a new Lesbian Heroes feature by Lilywoolf, looking at the life and work of British artist, Joan Eardley. Some lovely spring-themed (and not so spring-themed) illustrations from myself, Clem Tarrant, Gem Sheldrake and Kasia Kawczynski, a new Sewing Sans Pattern showing how to make the Spoils Bag from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, a cute 2-page comic from Meg Guindon, a new Stale Symphony from Sammy Borras, and an article about giving up lying for Lent! Can one even function in society while being all honest, all the time?

We also got a great response to Poppet's call for questions, she was spoilt for choice! She already answered one here on the Woolfblog, but there's more in the zine as usual.

Thank you to all the contributors, we're looking forward to the next issue!

January/February 2013

Here it is! The last issue from the bi-monthly format. We hope to be able to print with a slightly bigger page count for our new season-based schedule, but this one was still full of lovely valentines/new-year themed contributions!

This time the cover was done by returning cover artist Megwoolf, you may recognise her from the Jan/Feb issue of last year. Intro and contents by Sarahwoolf, as Lilywoolf was too busy with exciting projects! To our delight, a new contributor appeared who we didn't know personally! Kasiawoolf drew us an adorable illustration. Sarahwoolf stretched the notion of 'sewing' a little by featuring instructions on making a hardback notebook in this issue's Sewing Sans Pattern, but it does include some sewing so it's probably okay. Regular contributor Gemwoolf drew us another wolf-themed illustration, this time with added cute factor! Gemwoolf also helped illustrate an article by Debwoolf on Valentine's Day in Japan. Followed by instructions for making your own chocolates, instructions we should all follow forthwith! There's also another installment of Things Sarah Sees, opposite a new and finely crafted essay from Nelwoolf, this time on gift-giving, reciprocity, and the power dynamics inherent in the traditional man-pays-for-date system. Clemwoolf returns once again with a weird and wonderful sloth, and Sammywoolf also graced us with a double-size four-page Stale Symphony comic! Where would we be without her?

Last but not least, Poppet returns with more fairy advice for another human in peril...

A new zine schedule

Greetings dearest Woolves! Sarahwoolf here with some news about the zine.

As of this month, we will be publishing What's the Time, Mrs Woolf? every three months, rather than every two. This is mostly because Lilywoolf and Sarahwoolf (me!) just don't have time to do our day jobs, our freelance work and a bi-monthly zine, and this has lead to Lilywoolf taking many breaks from the zine and Sarahwoolf doing almost nothing but the zine. We hope that publishing only four issues per year, rather than six, will be more manageable. (Not to mention Sarahwoolf's poor mother won't have to print quite so many tracing paper overlays. I love you, Mum!) Hopefully this will also make it easier for all of you to contribute, as there will be more warning for each deadline.

As there will be four zines per year, we've also decided to base them on seasons, rather than months. WTTMW will now come out as Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter issues! These loosely correspond to months as follows:

Spring: March, April, May

Summer: June, July, August

Autumn: September, October, November

Winter: December, January, February

Under this new system our next issue will be the Spring issue! We're setting the deadline at the 1st of May. Remember you can submit anything you like, from illustrations to articles to puzzles and recipes. We already have some lovely work from the defunct March/April issue and we're looking forward to seeing more!

September/October 2012: The Spooky Issue

Greetings Woolves! The spooky Hallowe'en issue is now complete and ready to launch at our autumn events!

This time Sarahwoolf did the cover and overlay. Along with a special 9-page feature on Hyaku Monogatari, the Japanese ghost story game, and some ghost stories to use if you want to try it this Hallowe'en. Rebecca Fogg has doodled us up a fascinating fact sheet about the festival, complete with adorable illustrations. Meg Guindon has provided yet another comic! This time a spooky true story from her childhood. Clem Tarrant returns with another lovely illustration. New contributor Deborah Clerkin has drawn us a beautiful cover! We needed something a bit spookier for the outside, but we couldn't bear not to use it, so it's been printed as a contrasting internal cover.

Of course we also have our regular features: Stale Symphony by Sammy Borras, Lesbian Heroes by Lilywoolf, Sewing Sans Pattern by Sarahwoolf, Ask Another Question, and another incredible door picture by Gem Sheldrake.

We'll be posting soon about our upcoming Autumn events, until then if any of you are coming to the Birmingham Zine Fair tomorrow you can find us with our pals from Inspired Comics. Happy Hallowe'en!

Back Issues - July/August 2012: The Hairy Issue

This issue's cover illustration/lettering by Lilywoolf, as well as 'Lesbian Heroes' - this issue featuring featuring a shout-out to bisexual hero Frida Kahlo as an honourable (hairy!) mention. Illustrations by Clemwoolf and Sarahwoolf, inlcuding "Things Sarah Sees". This issue includes a hairy photoshoot feature throughout, thanks to the photography of Claudia Codirolli and this issue's hairy model, Jessie Normaschild. This month's "Sewing Sans Pattern" by Sarahwoolf is all about swimsuits! Some hair-raising comics by Megwoolf and Sammywoolf, including Sammywoolf's"Stale Symphonies". Sarahwoolf goes hairy for this issue and reports on her findings, but could this be the start of long-term liberation from the razor? Watch this space. There's also some pretty rad hairy lettering going on in this issue. Finally, what's better than a fairy problem page? A hairy problem page, with heirlooms! Of course.
