Hey Paps! I came out as nonbinary recently and I’m really excited about finally being able to accept this part of myself. My parents are really supportive, but when I told my mom I started hormone therapy, she got really scared that I might be starting too early. I’m confident, informed, and excited about this process, but I’m really bummed that I can’t bring it up without her saying she doesn’t think it’s time. Any advice on how to wait for her to come around?
I AM EXCITED FOR YOU, TOO!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!! BUT I UNDERSTAND WHY YOUR MOM IS SCARED! SHE PROBABLY DOES NOT KNOW VERY MUCH ABOUT THIS AND YOU ARE HER WONDERFUL WONDERFUL CHILD!! HER JOB IS TO KEEP YOU SAFE AND HAPPY!
MY ADVICE IS TO TALK TO HER! IT CAN BE HARD TO TALK TO PARENTS ONCE THEY MAKE UP THEIR MINDS... BUT IT CAN BE DONE!! THE SECRET IS TO NOT JUST EXPLAIN YOUR POINT OF VIEW! YOU HAVE TO LISTEN, TOO! ASK WHAT SHE IS WORRIED ABOUT! ANSWER HER QUESTIONS!
BEING LISTENED TO CAN MAKE EVEN GROWN-UPS FEEL BETTER! AND EVEN IF THAT DOESN’T WORK... THEN YOU TRIED YOUR BEST!! SHE WILL COME AROUND WHEN SHE SEES THAT YOU ARE STILL SAFE AND HAPPY!
