It was funny, rereading the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books (1947-2007) a few years ago, to realise that these beloved favourites of mine, about an enigmatically wonderful woman who helps parents deal with their naughty children, were really quite strikingly dated. Their pedantic nature and the characters' interactions seemed jarringly outdated. AT FIRST. But the amazing thing about this series--the first four books written by Betty MacDonald, the last written by her daughter from her notes, and illustrated by Hilary Knight, Mercer Mayer, and Alexandra Boiger--is that the charm and humour remain timelessly appealing! Indeed, my own nieces begged for more of this silly woman with the upside down house! In fact, it seems that Macmillan has published a recent spinoff series, Missy Piggle Wiggle, written by Ann M.
