[Nugget Tree] A look back on the past few months
Nugget Tree at least lasted into 2016, which isn’t saying much since we started in December.
Three months ago, I posted a video on this new YouTube channel introducing the basic ideas we had, not really thinking too much into it. The quality wasn’t very good on it, but it said what I wanted. We were just going to play video games and have fun. After that was a silly trailer I made with the Ditty app (which I did entirely due to pre-channel boredom) and then the first set of videos went up for Fallout: New Vegas with me [Jonah] and Brandon [MrTheOverflow, here on Tumblr]. This was a pretty cool series, imo.
We also introduced Deus Ex: Human Revolution with Aerin [radiohost-womanofletters on Tumblr]. Originally, we were supposed to play at least a little bit of the original Deus Ex game, but due to lockpick-related technical difficulties, along with some recording difficulties, we never got very far, so we just jumped straight into the latest game.
We also at some point had meant to introduce Jarod [jratchley on Tumblr] with a series of Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, but audio problems prevented those videos from being uploaded. This was sad, because this series had what I considered the best jokes we made on the channel in its first few episodes.
Technical errors once again struck when our Fallout save file was made inaccessible, so we jumped right into Spooky’s House of Jumpscares. I gave Brandon no advance warning, and he expected it to just be a childish jumpscare game. He wasn’t wrong- but nor was he right. At 8 episodes, it is currently our longest running series, due to frequent technical errors and infrequent recording schedules.
Suddenly, out of the blue, we introduced Soulange [not present on Tumblr] into the group with Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones. FESS was perhaps my absolute favorite childhood game, so the two episodes were mostly me talking big about how much I knew, and then complaining when Soulange didn’t listen to my advice (he fucking used Seth, that dumb XP drain). Still, aside from the fact that Soulange seemed to think he was a golf sportscaster, it was pretty fun, and friends I have that were also FE fans said they loved it.
After the FE videos were released, I put together the first of two highlight reels, with clips from Spooky and FESS, one month ago. With a simple thumbnail of a literal tree made out of chicken nuggets, I told everyone on the team to send it to everyone they knew, and it’s currently our most viewed video.
Soulange also appeared in a video of Amnesia, the Dark Descent, which will continue once he’s not busy being in shows at school.
This past week, Brandon and I were too sick to scream at Spooky (coincidentally at the same time), so we started playing FTL. The audio’s a bit loud, but we spent a whole day playing that and Hand of Fate, and Hand of Fate was completely unusable, so we put it up anyway. The audio issues will be fixed after the first few episodes.
Now, I have to go decide whether I’m going to upload the most recent Deus Ex or FTL video, next. I hope you take the time to check out our channel if you haven’t already. Tell them Jonah sent you. Yes. Tell Jonah... Jonah sent you... I don’t even know what I mean, I’m writing this at almost midnight, leave me alone.
