It’s a strange thing to really internalize those first few weeks, but once we were in his room, his eyes only moved a fraction of an inch to focus on me. And those eyes didn’t leave. Not like he used to, when I was a child.

I was a strange child. I was self-conscious and embarrassed at everything, and if I was raising my hand to hide it, people would stare at me. But that’s not me, is it? I’m not ashamed to admit that I was weird. It’s not even my own fault that I ended up like this.
