Felt like sharing more of my canned episode ideas so here’s another one! Kind of a crappier doodle this time because I’m tired.
This is actually another one of them kind of canned but maybe not really episodes though, so I might keep this one if I can tweak it juuust right but so far I’ve been leaning more towards not worth the effort so we’re going with that.
In this episode of Future City during an early morning Subject overhears Ms. Degree singing to herself in her room, which before this point she has never heard before, and thinks it’s absolutely fantastic and just has to tell her. So she does the minute she comes out of her room.
During her rush of compliments she asks why Ms. Degree never did anything special with her singing voice if she sang so well and Ms. Degree tells her that she just didn’t want to. Subject CANNOT believe that when she hears it and tries to push Ms. Degree into doing something with it now since it’s “not too late”.
What happens through-out the episode eventually leads to the image you see up above. Ms. Degree begins to gain popularity because of her voice and Subject acts as her agent, barely allowing any room for opinions or comments on Ms. Degree’s part.
What happens at the end of the episode is probably pretty predictable. Ms. Degree gets fed up with the whole thing and kind of breaks down in a way? Like, she lets Subject know the more detailed version of why she didn’t wanna become a singer and it’s because she knew she wouldn’t be happy doing it, and that fact hadn’t changed. That kind of lifestyle just wasn’t her thing.
Subject still doesn’t understand how Ms. Degree could let something like that really good singing voice, in her own words, “go to waste” like that, and this gets to the lesson of the episode.
Just because you're good at something, doesn’t necessarily mean that’s what you should pursue. Especially if it’s not something you really enjoy doing.
If you were really good at tying shoes you wouldn’t wanna become a professional shoe lacer, right? Instead you would pursue and put time into what you loved doing. Not that Ms. Degree didn’t like to sing, she loved singing. But it was just something she’d rather keep to herself.
After their heart to heart talk, they quit the singer life and go back to normal, but with a little bit of a twist. A twist I actually don’t want to reveal. Even though this episode might not happen, there is still the off chance that it will and the twist is important to the continuity so, sorry!
The reason why I don’t want to keep it is because the episode feels a little out of genre for me? Like it’s not something that belongs in the show. It kind of does, but at the same time, it’s kind of silly. And not silly in the good way. I mean my goodness how can you take Ms. Degree seriously in that outfit?
I dunno. Whenever I think of this episode, something just feels off to me y’know what I mean? If not, I’m sorry, It’s hard to put the feeling into words.
I like the lesson the episode gives, and of course I love the edge it adds to the story, but at the same time, I feel like I could just do this episode differently.
This episode is just a one hit wonder indeed.
Here’s another canned episode, and here’s why.
Ok so this episode was canned for a MULTITUDE of reasons. It’s one of the episodes I’ve made that I still to this day cannot believe I invented. It boggles my mind that this was something I once considered to make. But it was. In fact, it was one of the first. What was it about, especially with a title like that? Weeeeeeeell...
Ms. Degree didn’t like letting Subject go outside. In fact she didn’t allow Subject to leave the lab without her. This of course bothered Subject because she really wanted to know about the outside world. So, this caused Subject to rebel and sneak out every early morning while Ms. Degree was asleep.
This episode is about one of Subject’s misadventures while she ventures outside. Subject runs into a bunch of guys doin’ guy things in the park. One of those things was hawkin’ loogies as far as they could. Subject thought that this was a fun idea and scampered over to go and join them.
They don’t want her to join in howeer, and don’t even believe that she can cause she’s a girl. Durrhurr. She surprises the however cause it turns out that hawkin’ loogies is apparently one of her hidden talents. The guys aren’t pleased by this however, and Subject is met face to face with the guy in charge of this loogie hawkin’ gang. He lets her know that he’s the only one allowed to be the champ and tells her to back off. She retaliates though and says that anyone should be allowed to hawk loogies if they want, so this leads to the champ challenging her to a contest for the following day. If she wins, she and anyone else can join the gang if they want, if she loses, she gets to be humiliated and is never allowed to set foot in the park again. She accepts.
After going home while in the lab, she has an accident and breaks her nose, thus crippling her loogie hawkin’ abilities. However is Subject is a no show to the contest, she’ll automatically be disqualified so she has to go, even though she has no chance of winning now.
She goes the following day, and is horribly humiliated when she attempts to hawk. They don’t even fall an inch away from her, and all hope sees lost until...Ms. Degree shows up, and a machine she made, that hawks a loogie SO far, it rounds the earth and hits the Champ guy in the back of the head. Because there was no rule barring Ms. Degree’s sudden entry, Subject is declared the winner, and she’s allowed to go the park as much as she wants, and she and Ms. Degree even form a bond. But she still gets in trouble for sneaking out.
I seriously have no idea why I made this a thing. The guys are pretty bad stereotypes, the entire premise is INCREDIBLY STUPID and gross, and since it was made a REALLY long time ago, it actually doesn’t follow elements of the story anymore.
I made the episode up to be a GIRL POWER episode, and to show that Ms. Degree while strict, has her rules set in place for a reason and is actually really nice and caring deep down, and to soften up her opinion about Subject, but looking back at it now, it’s horribly embarrassing, and it will never, EVER. Be a thing. Especially because I have now come up with ways to do what this episode was going to, but much MUCH better.
Hey everyone! I felt like sharing some stories today, and that’s what I plan on doing!
So those of you who follow me should probably know by now that I really want to make a cartoon series called Future City with these two as the main stars. What a great big majority of you DON’T know is that I already have a bunch of episodes planned for the series. I’ve been thinking stuff up for them pretty much since I decided I was going to make them a show.
However, not all of those episodes have been great ideas, and in fact have been, well, pretty bad. So I decided to share with you the ideas I no longer want to use, and why! Now that that’s out the way, I’ma get started.
You know an episode’s probably not going to be a good idea when literally the reason I made it up was because I wanted to make Subject cry.
The episode’s idea in the most basic terms would be, Subject and Ms. Degree order a labrat to start performing tests on that they couldn’t perform on Subject herself. During a test involving time travel, that rat gets fried and fudgin’ dies. Or, so we think. Subject starts bawling her eyes out, there’s a lot of feels, and then there’s a twist. Turns out, Einstein ( The rat’s name, that Subject gave him btw ) was just sent back in time, starts a family, and he’s the reason why there are albino rats.
I canned this episode because it was just WAY too mean spirited just for the sake of wanting to instill feels on the audience. I literally only brought the rat in to “kill him off” and that’s kind of dumb. And also to break one of the happiest characters in the whole cartoon, but doing it in the quickest and laziest way possible. Also, Ms. Degree isn’t very nice in this one either until the end, and I just don’t want people getting the idea that she’s a horrible person.
Sorry Einstein, but you will not be missed.
Ok so I think I might finally have a design for these two that I like so HERE WE GO
The thing that always bothered me when coming up with Sonic Designs for these two was the height and over all appearance? Like, the typical mobian design just didn’t look right y’know what I mean? But a little while ago I remembered that CHIP EXISTS so using his body type as my main inspiration I went for it and I can now say that I am a lot more satisfied.
NB4 you say they can’t look like that they CAN because they’re not actually MOBIAN!!! So there. They just have a Sonic-esque apperance because every creature in that universe needs one. It’s like, the Sonic RULE. ( Even the Wisps, while still different, still have a certain feel that they belong in that universe. ) If Cosmo can happen in Sonic X these two can happen just the same.
I’m thinking that their story might be that they showed up on mobius one day out of the blue? And like the reason that they’re there is because they’re studying the life and other strange things that happen on the planet. Cause like, if you were an alien and you heard that one day a planet broke apart into pieces but then suddenly within the span of a couple of days it came back together wouldn’t you be interested?? Yeah I’m pretty sure you would be.
Also I’m thinking of maybe giving them four fingers instead of 5 any thoughts??? Maybe other suggestions/feedback??
