Fantastic Four #2 (2013)
365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
Supporting Character Supplemental - Darla Deering
Darla Deering is a popular singer songwriter who was involved in an affair with Johnny Storm of The Fantastic Four. Johnny and his family were preparing for a journey into the stars and each were asked to find someone to stand in for them as caretakers of the Baxter Building and chaperones to the children of the Future Foundation. Reed Richards had asked Antman (Scott Lang); Sue Storm asked Queen Medusa of Attilan; and Ben Grimm asked She-Hulk. On a whim, Johnny asked Darla and she reluctantly agreed.
Thus Darla found herself embroiled in the madcap affairs of The FF. Although woefully unprepared, Darla proved up to the challenge and she had numerous adventures alongside the team. Not possessing super powers of her own, Darla took to using an old ‘Thing suit’ Richards had built for Ben Grimm during a time he had temporarily lost his powers. With this power armor, Darla became ‘Miss Thing.’
Darla and Johnny were by no means exclusive and she became involved in a romance with her colleague, Scott Lang. When The Fantastic Four ultimately returned, Darla returned to her career as a performer, finding that her time as a member of the FF had significantly enhanced her popularity and record sales. Rather than small venues about Greenwich Village, she was now asked to perform at stadiums about the world. Although her romance with Lang had soured the two remained friends and she hired Lang’s fledgling private security firm to offer security for her Miami based concert.
Darla first appeared in the pages of Marvel NOW! Point One #1 (2012).
