okay yk what. msa hcs (varying degrees of stupidity) GO:

vivi is trans and a bisexual demigirl (she/they), arthur is a double demi nonbinary pansexual (he/they/she), lewis is bisexual (he/it). not sure what's up with him but just know he's cis in a special way. mystery is ouppy

lewis is mexican-italian and can speak both languages, vivi knows japanese only partially since it wasn't spoken a lot at home

arthur has bad eyesight and cannot see shit up close. they have prescription glasses (completely forgets to bring them along half the time)

vivi owns a bike. absolutely no reason besides looking cool and rizzing up lewis

belle has a very short attention span and lewis defends her with his life every time someone gets mad at her for not listening

mystery is besties with basically every human even those who don't usually like dogs. he's very polite and well mannered so they make an exception

vivi's dad is exceptionally good at sewing and boku is actually a handmade plushie that he gifted them when she was little <3 vivi refuses to ever let the little fella go, whenever they need a fix-up she immediately goes to dad

lewis used to write astronomically cringe and lovesick poetry about vivi in his notes app when they were still in the pining stage. he'd rather die a second time than let anybody find out about it let alone vivi herself

chloe was very excited to meet arthur in particular when vivi promised to introduce her to the gang bc for some reason she thought he was british and she'd never talked with an actual british person before. needless to say she was so disappointed when the meetup finally happened

vivi's got laios type autism when it comes to the supernatural

arthur is able to play dead like a possum in a VERY convincing way. got yelled at multiple times by all 3 of her buddies for making them think he died for real

Collecting some MSA Headcanons

Arthur is no damsel in distress, but he does get the short end of the stick. A lot. However, he’s the most likely one to think of a way out of a situation first.

Vengeful ghosts have certain abilities tied to their deaths and memory. A common example is Lewis calling on flame because he fell to death with a torch. However, given events at the end of Hellbent, I posit that vengeance bent ghosts can call up “memory planes.” This is a place that holds deep significance for them, though it may not be their place of death. They project a manifested version of this place, except THIS TIME they are in utter control of all its aspects. Think of it as reliving a trauma, but placing yourself in the seat of power–and weaponizing it.

Vivi cannot swear. She can only say ridiculous strings of nouns and verbs that sound very threatening in that tone of voice, but if anyone else does it, it sounds really dumb. The gang has dubbed these expressions “Vivisms.”

Each ghost must have a core vow or determination (developed and honed in life or immediately after death) in order to continue on in this existence. Changing that core vow after death is very risky. The ghost may not have the strength to do this and may pass over just from the effort. If it manages to change the core vow, it will be permanently weakened.

Each ghost’s anchor can manifest something that relates to its personality, desires, anchor composition, or core vow. I think Arthur would be able to project a shield. I think Vivi would be able to project her ancestors sword. I think Lewis projects his mansion, a welcoming and safe place for those he cares about, and a death trap for enemies.

I think Mystery was forced into his current role against his will, but once he came to watch over Vivi is when real change set in for him.

I think Gramma Yukino is the Ancestor seen in Hellbent.

I think Lewis made way too much of an effort to impress Vivi’s family, going so far as to learn all the correct titles and calling her grandmother Obaasan (as learned after a frantic Google search) and while she rolled her eyes, she adopted it. But only from him.

How visibly a ghost manifests depends either on very strong will directly after death, or lengthy, intense practice thereafter. Very sensitive people can see most ghosts whether they practice or not, but to be visible to the particularly spirit-blind require protracted effort and practice.

Damaging a ghost’s anchor hurts them badly. The ghost will bleed energy, and if the bleed isn’t stopped or if they aren’t supplied with another’s energy, they will fade away. Disappear, if you will.

The prank wars between Lewis and Arthur have mostly centered around technology vs. spicy foods. Arthur ends up in the habit of LICKING his food before he takes a bite if Lewis is anywhere near, just in case it’s been laced with bhut jolokia fragments.

MYSTERY

I remember someone saying that they got the Mystery tails number wrong when they saw the shirt designs.

I think it was really cool because now we know it wasn’t! 

I find it also important to know that in the flashback with Vivi’s ancestor defending him that Shiromori has, you have to look close, but Mystery also has nine tails! So he probably lost them after that moment- potentially from Shiromori with Vivi’s ancestor!

Now from current models that have been given to us, we know that mystery has seven, and even his character profile mentions ‘7′ as his age!

So at some point he lost two tails, after his run-in with Vivi’s ancestor! I wonder what happened...I have a feeling it had to do with Shiro, her seeming want for his blood, and the fact that she has clippers that probably could easily cut a tail off.

But whatever the reason, I have a feeling from that new logo having the missing two tails, we’re gonna find it out next time!!

My headcanons Family Yukino!

Mystery was the husband of the grandmother Yukino, but he faked his death to prevent Shiromori from messing with his family and ruining everything, according to him. He only wanted to protect them, not in the way correct but in his way he did it.

Vivi is half kitsune, thanks to Mystery, who shares with her a very important family bond, he is her grandfather, supposedly deceased a few years ago.

The ancestor of the Yukino family was an onna-bügeisha who had gone to fight against an evil Mystery to avenge his Lord, who was also his father. The identity of the warrior was Mushi Yukino, who is Vivi's grandmother today.

The blue and sky colors of the Yukino family represent tranquility and hope in Japan, also being used to refer to witches or witchcraft in that country.

The name of Vivi's father is Joe Yukino.

The full name of Vivi is Vivianne.

Mystery knows that Mushi has known his true identity for a long time, which is why she almost always seems to reject him when he is around. He has a strong resentment against him, because she feels that he has betrayed them by faking his death.
